I got
another article published about New Champion Speedway. Using a write-up
provided by Ian C. Blair at American Turf Monthly, and pictures courtesy of Russ Cornell, I managed
to get COLOR pictures along with an article about the
AMA Open Finals
published in today's Daily Review newspaper. A small picture appears at
the top of the VERY FRONT PAGE with the wording; "Cycle Racing,
Motorcyclists heat up area track" as well as the caption; "New Champion
Speedway" under the picture. Then on the front page of the sports section
is the story along with a larger version of the same color picture. The
article is captioned; "Top cyclists appeared in Owego." (The picture was of
one taken from the infield of one of the last races that shows George Lazor,
Gene Bonsignore, and another rider I cannot indentify, going sideways
through turn one.) I am soo excited about getting this coverage for
Champion Speedway and speedway motorcycle racing in general! I am now
awaiting to see what, if anything, our other local newspaper The Evening
Times does with the same material I supplied them.
PS: The Daily Review has a website
http://www.thedailyreview.com, that
shows the same picture and complete story. (The website does not usually
show the complete newspaper, but did happen to include this.) That was
where I stubbled acrossed it before actually purchasing the newspaper.
Also, I intend to send copies to those of you who I usually do provide them,
considering I have your snail-mail addresses, which I believe I do.
I love helping to bring major-league speedway racing back to the East Coast!

The Friday 17 July edition of the Evening Times was titled
"Motorcycle Thrills Back At The New
Champion Speedway", and was an introduction to Speedway racing
, including the 1998 racing
schedule, directions to the track, admission prices, etc.,
and the results from last weekend's AMA National
Qualifier races.

I met with Jesse Ochoa, who is building a brand new Speedway
track at Club Moto in Livermore.
His current plan is to open on August
15 and run every Saturday until the weather gives out. This will take
over when Cal Expo finishes their season. The track will be a few feet
bigger than Auburn.
Currently he has a bulldozer and a tractor with a shovel moving dirt
around, but next week he will be getting DG delivered and the crashwall.
He will be looking for volunteers to help put the walls up.
If you are able to put in a few hours to
help him, please contact Jesse at 925 248 6605.
Let's all hope this one can pick up the support that Baylands used to
have.

Fast Fridays Press Release
|
Cal Expo will run every Saturday till August 1,
with the exception of the July 4 weekend, when it will be closed. This
replaces the Dixon program which was to have run during this time.
Each event will be a regular individual Speedway competition, with a
Track Championship on August 1. All races will be AMA sanctioned.
Cal Expo is in the city of Sacramento, so there should be a good turn
out. I am sure everyone will join me in wishing them every success.
