They salvaged a share of the match points thanks largely due to an impressive paid maximum from skipper Gary Havelock, ably supported by Lars Gunnestad, unbeaten in 3 before lack of fuel in his machine in his fourth ride forced him to pull up two laps from a programmed ride maximum. Loram was excellent value for his overtaking whilst Nicholls had a nightmare start. Lindqvist and Elkins both opened their accounts but also suffered those mechanical gremlins - Elkins' coming whilst leading heat 8 and Lindqvist shedding a chain one race later. For Coventry Tacey was outstanding , Richardson - constantly booed with the record "Please Release Me" echoing round the stadium everytime he took to track, was solid and gave Loram something to think about in heat 7. Stancl too was solid but with Hamill having a nightmare and Hancock not dominant, the Pirates really should have bagged both league points.

Last heat controversy as Dugard layed down at the back, but Ebdon ruled a rerun, still a 5-1 to Witches. Scorers: Louis 14+1 (5), Hare 2, Svab 8, Ferjan 6+1, Gollob 12+1 (5), Bunyan 0 (3), Clouting 5 (5) Eastbourne: Screen 8 (5), Barker 5+1, Dugard 8 (5), Norris 7+2, Hurry 6, Collyer 1+1 (3), Kokko 8+2 (5) Not sure how Kokko ended up top scorer for the Eagles, but he did ride particularly well in Heat 14. Full details later. Cheers, Dave Love
