From: jangrainger@bigpond.com To: "Internet Speedway Fan Club List"Subject: Re: under new management Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 08:08:50 +1000 Now c’mon Steve, there is a bar at Gosford, in fact there are two temporary ones, but this just goes to show how difficult it has been for Terry Poole to stage a professional show there. He has been hamstrung by the Showground Trust in every aspect. Trust me, I know, I’ve been with Terry since before Gosford opened and I am very aware of the the difficulties he has had to endure. A weaker man would not have survived. When you are dealing with members of a Trust and a group of council aldermen (who had no knowledge of speedway) you are up against a brick wall. Fortunately the council came on side despite issuing heaps of rules and regulations but the Trust and the Greyhound people NEVER made life easy for Terry and quite frankly it was an embarressment at times to host international meetings there. Add these problems to those created by MA and MNSW and you can only admire Terry Poole for surviving. I sincerely hope David Tapp is successful because I would hate to see Gosford close because of the dedication of a great bunch of people who have been associated with the track for the past 8 years. It’s going to be a very, very sad day on June 11th.

From: ovalking@geocities.com To: "Internet Speedway Fan Club List"Subject: Grass Track Off Date: Fri, 02 Jun 2000 11:14:41 +0100 The Grass Track scheduled for Ugly, nr Stanstead, Essex on Sunday is off. Not sure of reason as I was left a message but probably due to a waterlogged track as the Dunmow club events are usually well supported. That's 5 out of 5 meetings lost so far. This is bad news for club riders and the sport in general in the Eastern Centre. Why get a licence and have money tied up in bikes & equipment if there are no meetings? I seriously fear for the long term future of the sport in this area. The number of riders, clubs running meetings, fields available, continue to diminish and it's hard to see how the trend will reverse. Let's hope everyone can be patient and look forward to the British Championships @ High Easter on June 18. The next scheduled centre meeting is the Woodbridge clubs on July 8 (Sat). Gary

They just to want see some top flight speedway at the only accessible multi purpose 360 meter bike venue for Speedway devotees on the central coast, Sydney and outer areas, bar other smaller bike tracks, Where else are you going to go..... Parramatta and watch Sprint cars???....know thanks (no disrespect to Dave Lander). Steve, has put up some valid points though and only time will tell if the proposed improvements are going to enhance Gosford. Though i think he was only pointing out some of Gosford's short comings to Thilo, who asked the question if a G.P. round was going to be staged there, wouldnt that be a lovely thought!!!. (though i think i am looking thru rose coloured glasses at that prospect). I think though alot of Tapp's regular band of knockers and hecklers should adopt a "lets wait and see posture" for a change and instead of jumping the gun as usual and rubbishing his plans, he may just pull the "rabbit out of the hat" yet. I hope he does not for his sake, but for the speedway and all those involved. I think he knows the depth of emotion involved with the venue and if he is as shrewd and savvy as a promoter as he has been a entrepreneur, i then i would think it is not just a case of big promises and high expectations on his behalf for Gosford. Anyway we shall see, I wonder how he is going to deal with the various bodies that made life hell for Terry?. Whilst June 11th will be a day of high emotion and sadness, i think alot of people will reflect back and remember the good times and be thankful that Gosford had Terry at the helm for all those years. Cheers Anth
From: anthonymcguire@dingoblue.net.au To: "Internet Speedway Fan Club List"Subject: overseas final Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 22:03:51 +1000 The riders list for the 2000 Overseas final has been released and their is 4 Australian riders with a real chance of progression through to the Intercontinental Final. The winner of that meeting progresses automatically to the G.P. for 2001, whilst the other qualified riders go through to the final stage of qualification the toughest of them all, The G.P. Challenge held in Lonigo, Italy later this year. 1. David Howe 2. Nathan Murray 3. Paul Hurry 4. Mark Lemon 5. Sean Wilson 6. Mike Faria 7. Scott Nicholls 8. Josh Larsen 9. Jason Lyons 10. Sam Ermolenko 11. Lee Richardson 12. John Cook 13. Craig Watson 14. Steve Johnston 15. Shaun Tacey 16. Martin Dugard At a look, one would have to say that the Aussie band should all qualify going on current form. But Craig Watson who is returning from serious injury could struggle. He has been practising at Newport in recent weeks in preparation and what he may lack in fitness he may get through on his natural skill alone. Out of the Englishmen, Martin Dugard has been in sparkling form for his Yang Eastbourne Eagles and he could do a "Stoney" this year and go all the way. Scott Nicholls, Lee Richardson and perhaps Sean Wilson should be specials as well to progress. Out of the Americans, Sudden Sam Ermolenko and Josh Larson could force their way through. A sentimental favourite, Sam Ermolenko at 40 would be a popular fans choice to force his way back to G.P. qualification status. This years meeting should prove to be another cracker event as usual as the European speedway calendar starts to really swing into action with the G.P.'s already underway and the world under 21 final, World Team Cup Finals, Golden Helmet and G.P. Qualifiers to come, a spectacular feast of topflight speedway for fans across Europe and the rest of the Speedway world is assured. Anthony McGuire
