While I have not seen much of Rusty Harrison, in fact only one meeting the
2000 Australian Final, I think that the latter half of the British season
is a good time to put a newcomer from the other side of the world in a
British Team.

With most of the young Aussies saddled with a 8-9 point starting average
putting a new Aussie in at the end of the season where his club is not
performing that well,so he can get a "real" average for 2001 would be a
good idea wouldn't it. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to go
forwards and in my view with Glasgow not exactly having a great season, the
signing of young Harrison might be a good investment. Remember he has
ridden in an Australian Final so he is not a complete mug.

I certainly wish him well and I hope not too much pressure is put on him at
too early a stage.

Glenn,
will you be still infield commentating alongside, Australia's own
version of Dave Lanning, Mr Ross Allen. The track would be a poorer place
without your 2 familiar voices booming out over the track speakers, i hope
D.T. does upgrade them as well!!...cheers Anthony

Subject: Gosford Meeting Number 9 (Finale)

Gosford Speedway on the N.S.W. Central Coast staged meeting number 9 of the
1999/2000 season on Sunday. This was the final meeting under the Terry
Poole banner.

The format of the meeting was the usual scratch and handicap racing in both
Solo and Sidecar Divisions.

Results as follows;-
Solos
B and C Handicap	Jack Stevens (30), Dave Stevens (20), Jaye Stevens (10)
B Grade Scratch	Dave Booth, Shane Haggarty, Leigh Fernance
A Grade Scratch	Mick Poole, Stephen Davies, Dean Wiseman
Stars Scratch Heat 1	Wiseman, Poole, Fernance (fell n/s in re run), Booth
(fell exc)
Heat 2	Davies, Haggarty, Rod McDonald, Ben Shields (fell n/s in rerun)
Consolation Ben Shields, Jay Stevens, Jack Stevens
Final Davies, Poole, Wiseman, Haggarty
B and C Handicap	Jack Stevens(30), Jaye Stevens(10), Dave Stevens(20)
Stars Handicap	Ben Shields (50), Poole (90), Davies (90)
Open Handicap Ht 1	Shields (50), Poole (90), Paul Parlett (Gate)
		  Ht2	Jaye Stevens (10), Davies (90), Dave Stevens (20)
Consolation Haggarty (60) No other finisher. Only 3 starters
Final Shields (50), Davies (90), Parlett (Gate), Poole (90) (fell and
remounted)
10 Lap Feature Poole (90), Shields (50), Jay Stevens (10)

Sidecars
Stars Scratch Grant Bond, Chris Pym, Steve Houston
Sidecar Shoot out Ht1	Houston, Bond, Pym, Greg Allen
	                 Ht2	Bond, Pym, Houston
Final (2 Laps) Bond, Pym 32.55 (new 2 lap record)
Stars Handicap	Houston (60), Pym (80), Bond (80)
Sidecar King of the ring. A series of elimination 2 lap races
1) Greg Allen beat Alana Harrington
2) Steve Houston Beat Allen
3) Chris Pym beat Houston
4) Chris Pym beat Grant Bond to win the King of the Ring
Super 6 Lapper	Houston (60), Alana Harrington (Gate), Bond
(80) 1.25.31 (new record). This does not sound like a correct time,
and I suspect that they only did 5 laps.

And so this brings to a close the first chapter in the history of Gosford
Speedway. Terry Poole has done a sterling job getting the track opened
initially, and then keeping it running under often difficult circumstances
over the last 8 years. I personally would like to thank him for his efforts
and wish him well in whatever he does in the future.

From various sources it would seem David Tapp is going to widen the track
so as to accommodate 6 riders at the gate in Solos and 5 at the gate in
Sidecars. The first meeting under the new regime will be on Saturday
October 7th one week after the Olympics finish.

Subject: Re: [speedway] Reading 46 Newport 44
Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 00:01:30 +0100

Flippin heck!

Reading tried to do an England by throwing away a good lead tonite but just
failed - despite still trying hard to complete their suicide in heat 15!

Reading's horrorshow included - 2 falls, 1 heat 15 two minutes ef, and FIVE
further efs.
The biggest problem was Paul Clews who dropped a hatful of points due to
THREE shed chains.
Armnado stopped at the tapes in heat 15 with what looked like some sort of
terminal clutch problem, failed to start heat 10 at all and fell in heat 6,
remounting.

All in all Newport who looked sunk without hope after heat 5 (22-8 down)
were allwoed back into the meeting with three succcessive 5-1s although the
Appleton/ Neath pair deserves credit for a deserved maximum in heat 7 over
Dicken and Norris.

Reading were 44-40 up going into the last race and suffered Castagna failing
to get his bike started on the line as it lurched into the tapes.
Norris was his replacement.

Horror of horrors the Newport pair of Henriksson and Appleton led but the
stupendous Morris heaved around the impressive Appleton to claim a deserved
Reading win.

Reading

A Castagna (3.F/r.R.3.M) 6
(Another nightmare night for Castagna - who won heat 1 emphatically after an
early challenge from Henriksson dissolved to nothing. After a fall - whilst
2nd was it? -and an ef on the line won Reading's vunerable heat 13 dusting
off Henriksson again before a crippled bike cost hima third crack at the
Swede. Despite his woes he looked better tonight - if that makes sense...)

P Clews (R.1.R.2) 3
(Also had a mare. Three successive thrown chains saw points disappear all
over the shop. Can't tell whether it was a bike problem or not that led to
his being passed by Neath in heat 8 but he had Appleton beaten before an ef
cost him second. Andy beat him again in heat 10 but he passed Neath in this
to end up with something for a wretched night!)

P Morris (2'.3.3.3.2) 13+1
(So close to that elusive max and looked a class act. Terrific pass of
Appleton in heat 3 after big pressure. Then again his pass of the splendid
Appleton to win the match in heat 15 was top drawer.
Once again magnificent.)

K Marsh (3.2'.2'.2) 9+2
(Despite the green tinged comments from certain Swindonians Kris is looking
a hugely improved rider lately. Another terrific score - beat Appleton,
Henriksson and Howe before losing out on his max to that man Appleton in
heat 14. Really Excellent)

L Dicken (3.1.2.F/r) 6
(Adequate guesting show - looked great beating the surprisngly limited Howe
in heat 4 but thereafter had real problems with the turns locking up badly
on turn 3 in all of his rides. Fell whilst giving his all v Henriksson and
Howe - so Reading were pleased with his commitment.
Looked worse than his last visit many moons ago with Hull?)

M Norris (2'.R.1'.1'.0) 4+3
(Another showing improved form - neither Herne, Courage or Armstrong looked
good enough to beat him)

S Colvin (3.1.1.0) 5
(Great heat 2 win - blotted his copybook again by losing to Herne in heat 12
looking bereft of passing ideas.)

Newport

A Henriksson (2.1.3.2.3) 11
(Two late wins made his score a creditable one - but he looked pedestrian
early on, particulaly easilly held by Marsh behind Morris in heat 5. Came
good when the track was at its slickest in heat 15 - and darn nearly won the
Wasps a highly unlikely looking draw for his efforts. Good knock.)

J Armstrong (1'.0.0) 1+1
(Woeful - miles behind . Gifted a 1+1 by a Clews ef - if Jon ain't carrying
a knock then Newport need to make changes here.)

C Neath (0.2'.3.1.2) 8+1
(A total enigma at Reading - hopelessly last in heat 3, then a paid win in
heat 7 over Dicken. Looked impressive winning heat 8 - but was it Clews bike
that flattered him? - then easilly passed by Clews in the next race. Which
is the real Chris Neath? )

B Howe (2.3.1.1') 7+1
(Probably cost Newport the match. I hadn't realised what a limited rider
Howe could be - he just wouldn't try and pass on the inside and couldn't
pass Dicken when he looked to be far better in his first race. I think he
would have beaten Armando in heat 6, but other than that he nhardly
threatened.)

L Herne (1.2'.1'.0) 4+2
(Hugely flattering score considering he only beat Colvin in heat 12 when
admittedly he rode for four laps under pressure and didn't crack.
5-1'd in heat 2, then gifted a 2+1 in heat 6 by a Castagna fall and a Clews
ef. Still he kept on riding determinedly so deserves some credit)

C Courage (0.0.0) 0
(Hopelessly tailed off at a track wherehe has dominated second half races -
I can only think he was carrying a knock or has totally lost his confidence.
Never looked like scoring.)

Nick

PS Nathan Murray unlikely to ride for Reading but currently only Berwick
have Reading's permission to talk to him...

eeek!

Forgot Newport's man of the match:

A Appleton (1.3.2'.3.3.1) 13+1
(ooooo! How good does this boy look now???
It makes me cry that Newport have landed the local Reading youngster
especially after a show like this one.
Twice beaten from the back by Phil Morris - crucially in heat 15 - but
Newport's strong mid match performance was really down to his solid
riding,
despite his fortune in heat 8 when Clews conked out. Beat Marsh well in
heat
14 to keep the Wasps alive - but had to admit defeat to Morris in 15 but
never gave up.
Fantastic show - a number one of the not too distant future.)

Sorry about that

Nick

Hi all,

I have to correct this message. Only the first 8 and number 9 as reserve are
qualified for the finals. This is because of the fact that in all finals
there will be two wild card riders.

fuck, I wish Kylmakorpi would be in, he has a very spectacular riding style.
What is this bloody wild card thing for ? There will be riders of all
participating nations in the GP, so its unnecesary to have them.
