Emil Kramer 3-1-0-0 =3D 4

Indianerna takes the bonus point

Attendance: 2239

After the meeting SVEMO awarded this mach to Kumla as
Frede Schott is not actually an =D6rnarna contracted rider, but is
actually contracted to their sister club, Vetlanda. Therefore =D6rnarna
were nor eligible to have the rider replacement facility, and those
rider replacement points were take away ( 7 points I believe),
consequently giving Kumla the win.

I am sure that Jonas Holmqvist will have more news on this,
currently he is on the island of Gotland having a rest, and enjoyed
an excellent meeting, with plenty of overtaking, on Tuesday night
where Bysarna beat Vetlanda in a crucial match at the top of the
alSvenskan league. Top scorers on the night were Tomas Topinka
for Bysarna, with 14 from 5 ( All of his heat wins were from the
back, three of them in spectacular style) and John Jorgensen for
Vetlanda with 14 from 7.

Subject: Auburn Results - July 7, 2000
Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2000 18:00:12 EDT

1997 World Champion Greg Hancock made a triumphant return to the Gold Country
Fairgrounds in Auburn by winning the Scratch Main to complete a sweep of the
scratch side of the program.
Hancock took the lead from his pole position and as the field exited turn two
Mike Faria was close behind. Hancock led at the close of lap one, but Faria
was no entrenched in battle for second with Charlie Venegas and Billy
Janniro. Janniro was able to squeeze by Faria and assume control of second
place. The battle for second allowed Hancock to stretch his lead to a
comfortable four bikelengths. Janniro was never able to mount a challenge as
Hancock cruised to the victory. Janniro was second, Venegas was third, and
Faria was fourth.
Hancock also qualified for the Handicap Main but was unable to duplicate the
success that he achieved on the scratch side of the program. This is not to
say that it didn't go without a valiant effort.
The six qualifiers for the Handicap Main started from either the 30 yard line
or the 50 yard line. This provided two distinct battles going into turn one.
Southern California native Dukie Ermolenko, Ian Ferris, and Robert Curry
lined up on the 30, while Hancock, Venegas, and Janniro were in the back.
Ermolenko was first into turn one and immediately began to open up ground on
the field. Janniro beat fellow backmarkers Venegas and Hancock to turn one.
Hancock went extremely wide and was dead last on the first lap. Ermolenko
was making the race a runaway as Janniro moved into third and began to
challenge for second. Meanwhile, Hancock was making up lost ground from the
back. On lap four Janniro went very wide in attempt to pass Ferris for
second allowing Hancock to get by and mount his own challenge on Ferris.
Ermolenko took an easy victory while Hancock passed Ferris on the final
corner to take second. Janniro finished fourth, Venegas was fifth, and Curry
was last.
Chris Kerr was lined up by himself at the tapes but had a strong field behind
him in the Second Division Main. Current Junior National Champion Eric
Carillo led the charge behind Kerr into turn one and immediately set his
sights on the lead. Kerr rode a very smooth race as Carillo slowly began to
close ground. At the white flag Carillo was within striking distance but was
unable to pressure Kerr into making a mistake. 16 year old Kerr took the
victory ahead of Carillo, Matt King finished third, and Mark Adams finished
fourth.
Billy Hiles recovered from a fall to win his heat race and then came from the
back of the field to take the Third Division Main ahead of Greg Hooten and
Ron Woodsford.
The Juniors provided a lot of exciting racing with Bryan Yarrow coming from
the 40 yard line to take the lead and then held off J.J. Martynse to win the
First Division Junior Main. Josh Newby was victorious in the Second Division
Junior Main with a wire-to-wire win. Tom Fehrman led the Third Division
Junior Main for three laps before falling allowing Paul Johnson to take the
victory ahead of Amanda English.

Jan,

Sorry but they HAVE LIED TO YOU.

The date of July 24th at 11:30 pm was ALREADY SCHEDULED. The other date is
July 28th at 8:30pm. Thus Saturday Nights telecast was CANCELLED.

This is not the first time Fox have messed up. They showed the same match
Eastbourne V Poole three times on successive Fridays earlier this year.
They obviously have no idea or just don't care.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Subject: Costa Mesa Results - July 8, 2000
Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2000 19:12:07 EDT

Former National Champion Chris Manchester won his first Scratch Main of the
season in front of a large crowd that saw a lot of exciting racing at Costa
Mesa.
Bobby Schwartz took the lead from the pole and looked to have control as he
exited turn two but Manchester used the outside dirt to gain momentum and
passed Schwartz on the back straight. Schwartz stayed low while Manchester
continued to use the outside to gain control of the lead at the close of lap
one. While Schwartz was chasing Manchester, Shawn McConnell and Dukie
Ermolenko battled side-by-side for third place. The battles continued
throughout the race, but Schwartz was unable to catch the former Overseas
Champion and McConnell held on for third place. Eddie Castro was fifth.
Manchester's victory ended a season-long struggle to break through the
invisible barrier that has been keeping him from a Scratch Main victory. He
has been impressive in his heats and semis but hasn't been able to put it
together in the main event until Saturday Night. Manchester's victory may be
a sign of things to come as the second half of the season approaches.
A notable absence from the Scratch Main field was Charlie "The Edge" Venegas.
The man who has won five of the nine Southern California Scratch Mains and
half of the main events failed to transfer from his scratch heat. Venegas
missed the start but was second to Andy Northrup and in a transfer position
when Schwartz made a spectacular ride around the outside to pass both
Northrup and Venegas and take the lead and a victory that received a standing
ovation from the large crowd. Northrup held off Venegas and subsequently
kept him from moving up in the program.
Jim Estes took a hard-earned victory in the Handicap Main event after holding
off Charlie Venegas the final three laps. Danny Perkins started at the tapes
with the rest of the eight-man field at least 40 yards behind him. Perkins
took the lead with the rest of the pack quickly trying to catch him. Estes
was the lone 40 yard rider with six riders behind him and was assuredly in
for a long eight laps. Venegas was able to get into third place on the third
lap when he passed Randy DiFrancesco. Estes now had to catch Perkins while
simultaneously holding Venegas back. He was up to the challenge as he passed
Perkins on the fifth lap to assume the lead. Venegas was unable to gain any
ground until they took the white flag and Venegas put a wheel under Estes as
they entered turn one. Estes remained cool under the pressure and actually
pulled away from Venegas as they exited turn two the final time. Venegas was
unable to close the gap and Estes took the checkered flag just ahead of
Venegas. DiFrancesco finished third, Brad Oxley was fourth, and Northrup was
fifth.
The Support Main provided the fans with some exciting racing with several
position changes throughout the race. Mark Hitchcock took the lead with
David Lynch and Tim Tucker right behind him. Lynch and Tucker battled for
second and passed each other several times. Hitchcock continued to lead
until the last lap when Lynch got underneath with Tucker right behind.
Tucker tried to force Lynch into a mistake but Lynch was up to the task and
took his second Support Main victory of the season.
John Stunkard was the only participant of the Support B Main Event on the 10
yard line and used that position to hold back the five 20 yard riders
throughout the race to take a wire-to-wire victory.
Costa Mesa will host two races this week during the Annual Orange County
Fair. Costa Mesa will return to its roots with a Friday Night program along
with sidecars, BMX jumpers, and Freestyle Motocross Jumpers featuring World
Famous Seth Enslow. The evening will coincide with the opening night of the
fair. On Saturday Night will be the annual Fair Derby which is one of
America's prestigious speedway events. Mike Faria will return from Northern
California to defend his Fair Derby title.

First of all, Jablonski did not qualify for the GP challenge.
Only 4 qualifiers (not German) + 1 german will go into that meeting.

Robert Barth is given as the certain Wild Card at Abensberg.

Apparently there will not be any reserve at the GP Challenge.

The next in line (now Jablonski will be called as qualified rider if there
will be any other missing riders (among thise finished in front of him)
already a few days before the meeting.

Subject: The way forward ???
Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 17:04:58 +0100

I have been reading the various contributions on these lists, about
the way forward with some interest. Basically I can see one vital
flaw with these ideas ( I am not saying that they are wrong), and
that is that they tend to be relatively short term ideas, and do very
little for the long term future of our sport. We need to be giving
consideration to where the sport will be in 10 years ( or more) time.
As Terry Cheney has pointed out already, Speedway has a habit of
going round in circles, what we need to do is to break those
circles, and start heading forwards. As far as the UK is concerned I
think we need to get our heads out of the sands, and realise that
the UK is no longer the centre of the speedway universe, and to
understand the reasons that we are no longer in that position.
There is no doubt that over the next few years, Polish speedway
will continue to dominate world speedway, Both Swedish and
Australian speedway is on the way up, before long we will be
languishing in 4th place in the big picture, unless we make
changes.
I have just been on holiday in Sweden, and took the time to visit
the Baltic Island of Gotland, home of Bysarna. On Thursday
evening they had a come and try speedway evening, for children of
between 5 & 16 years old. This evening was completely free, and
no charge was made for any part of this evening. There were 4
bikes available of differing sizes (physical & power), and these
bikes were allocated to the individual children by the coaches, all
recently retired Swedish League riders. Every rider had full
protective clothing, and was given a chance to have several laps to
see what they thought. The club had expected around 15-20 kids
to turn up, in actual fact there were more than 40, and the amount
of time that each child could have on the bike had to be reduced so
that everybody could have a go. They rode on the 80cc track that
adorns the centre green ( Do you remember them, and the national
speedway academy that was to happen in the UK?- Jan O
Pedersen). The excitement and pleasure on the kids faces was a
sight to behold, and I have no doubts that many of them will take
the chance to ride again given the opportunity.
There was however, one aspect of this that brought home to me
one of the major differences between Swedish speedway, and
British speedway - In Sweden speedway is still a sport, and not a
business. All of the protective clothing at this try speedway evening
had been provided by the local council, and they were more than
happy to help out the club (NOT a business). The club is run by a
committee, and a team of enthusiastic volunteers - I believe that
this set up is common to most of the clubs in Sweden, if not them
all.

So my final comment is that we should all get our heads from out
of the sands, and look to the successful speedway nations to see
how they are doing things, and maybe borrow their ideas.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

All,

It has come to my attention that there is a slight problem with the recent
release of my Speedway Meeting game. The original distribution file that
contains the default settings, only appears to work on Windows 2000. The
symptoms are that after installation, no competitions appear on the
Competitions Menu.

I think I've now fixed the problem, and have included a fixed settings file
within the distribution package. You can download this from:

	http://www.meynell.com/speedway-meeting/SpwyMtg49.zip

Alternatively, you can just download the settings file from:

	http://www.meynell.com/speedway-meeting/Speedway.reg

You can update the settings by double-clicking on the new file. A dialog
box should then appear asking you to confirm the update.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Slovenian champion Matej Ferjan is the first rider to have qualified for the
2001 GP series after being crowned continental champion at Lonigo on Sunday.
The meeting scheduled for Saturday evening had to be postponed to Sunday
afternoon after an heavy thunderstorm had flooded the track during the
afternoon with the rain continuing throughout the whole evening.
It was literally a Polish invasion with 6 riders filling the top seven
places but with Slovenian Matej Ferjan taking the only place that really
counted in this particular meeting.
The young Slovenian, World Junior runner-up in 1998 and currently one of the
most committed rider in Europe, had already won his two previous world
championship rounds this year, finishing on top of the rostrum both on home
soil at Krsko in the qualifier and then again in the Olching semi-final two
weeks ago.
He was certainly a deserved winner of the continental crown as he twice
defeated second placed Piotr Protasiewicz during the proper meeting, in heat
12 when both were still unbeaten after two outings, and then again in the
decisive run-off after they had tied on 14 when the 20 conventional heats
were completed.
But things could have gone the other way round had heat 19, Ferjan’s last
outing, not been stopped during the first lap when Piotr Swist and Robert
Nagy collided, with the former crashing heavily and receiving medical
attention for several minutes on the track and the latter being excluded by
English GP referee Tony Steele.
Ferjan was in fourth place at the time of the stoppage, and this could have
meant only a qualification spot for the GP Challenge at Abensberg later in
October.
Instead he managed to score 2 vital points in the re-run, helped again by
some good luck when, trailing behind a resurrected Swist and Armando
Castagna, saw the Italian rider slip in front of him during lap three.
The large contingent of his fans, who had remained at Lonigo after the
previous night postponement finding some eleventh hour accommodation, were
particularly noisy and finally invaded the track after the decisive run-off
to give him the traditional bumps.
Piotr Protasiewicz looked very disappointed on the rostrum afterwards,
especially as during the run-off he completely missed the start but showed
the capability to pass Ferjan only to be kept behind by the wise lines the
Slovenian was able to dictate from the front. In a last effort to pass
Ferjan at the beginning of lap four he slipped and crashed on the pits bend
seeing his chances of catching the through train to the GP series disappear
in the dust of the Lonigo track.
With the poor performance from the two Germans, Barth and Kugelman both
finishing on three points, only four places became available for
qualification to the GP Challenge.
And the Polish contingent filled all the remaining valuable places with
Swist 3rd , Ulamek 4th and Walasek 5th obtaining their passport to Abensberg
and the pair of Jablonski and Skornicki finishing next in line in 6th and
7th place respectively.
Grzegor Walasek had to defeat fellow compatriot Krzystof Jablonski in the
run-off that took place as heat 21 for the last qualifying spot available
after both had finished on 10.
Czech international Bohumil Brehl, even scoring 7 points in his last three
outings had seen his chances of qualifying shattered when he was excluded in
heat 3 failing to score again next time out in heat 5.
Armando Castagna, who had been seeded into the meeting as Wild Card, wasted
his second chances of a qualification to the 2001 GPs after having being
already eliminated from the semi-final at Olching. His hopes were still
alive until heat 13 when he was on six point having scored 3 second places
in his first three outings. But even without any possibility to repeat his
1997 triumph, when he clinched his one and only continental title on the
same track, he was still in the hunt for a qualifying spot to Abensberg. Not
convinced about the bike he had used before, he jumped on his second machine
only to finish last in that heat and say good bye to his world championship
hopes.
Disappointment came also for the seventh Polish in the meeting Tomasz
Bajerski ,who had begun with a win and a second but failed to score in his
remaining 3 outing and finished 10th on 5 points.
The two Germans, Kugelman and Barth, never entered in the hunt, the latter
probably relying on the fact that with Kugelman not going well either, he
will have a guaranteed place at Abensberg as Wild Card as previously
announced by the German federation.
The afternoon was not a shining one for the two Hungarians either. Robert
Nagy finishing 11th on 5 and Zoltan Adorjan solitary last on 2 points.
Czech Toni Svab and Slovenian Izak Santej were never in contention too,
scoring 4 point each and finishing 12th and 13th respectively after being
split by a ballot.
