Wolves 47 Kings Lynn 43

Another excellent team performance as Wolves beat the league leaders, to
record their 10th successive match unbeaten (9 wins + 1 draw). Kings Lynn
took the bonus by 4 points on aggregate.

Heat 15 had to be awarded after a horrific accident for Jason Lyons, who
crashed coming out of the 4th bend of the 1st lap after Ronnie Correy went
into the bend too hard and caught Jason. It looked really bad, but Jason was
able to walk away, and later praised the Wolves safety fence for saving him
from further injury. (Are you listening Kelvin Tatum - and one or two
others?!) The race was awarded due to substantial damage to the fence and
possibly an electric fuse box.

Lyons was good value for his 10 points and gave 100% effort. Star of the
show for Wolves was Adam Skornicki, who treated us to 2 "Donut" displays -
what a star. His score of paid 11 included an excellent win over Leigh
Adams. Jesper Jensen and Ronnie Correy both turned in solid performances,
Nicki Pedersen tried hard for little reward, Roman was as spectacular as
ever grabbing those vital 3rd places, Wayne won Heat 2 easily then had 2
tough rides against the Lynn top 4.

For the Knights, Crump was excellent, very quick, Adams was not far behind,
but the support was poor. Boyce faded badly after a good start, while the
rest were generally poor, especially Shane Parker. Obviously they are a good
side and their home form is superb, but I still think they have a lot of
work to do away from home to win the league. On tonight's form, I'm not
convinced... explain to me how they got 58 at Ipswich again?...

Entertaining match, another great result for Wolves.

All the best,
Mark.

Subject: Re: (Speedwayweb) Reading 43 Newcastle 47
Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 00:15:57 +0100

Reading always looked suseptable to a team with three heat leaders going
well and Newcastle had that and more.
Blimey this side won't be bottom for long if they ride like this.

The Racers had too many passengers and ithout Marc Norris scoring 7+3 would
have been hammered.
Colvin and Read both looked to be shorn of any semblance of confidence
whilst Marsh was appalling in his first two and unlucky in his last two.

Newcastle led from heat 3 and frankly always looked likely to win.

Reading 43

Castagna (2.3.3.3.2) 13
(People are still moaning at him! I can't believe it! Anway a sensational
effort I reckon beaten twice by the superlative Pedersen.
Unfortunatelt took off Phil in heat 15 as they chased Pedersen and Compton
in a last heat decider but atoned by passing the impressive Compton)

Read (F.0.F) 0
(How disappointing was this???
I really like this lad - but he looked all at sea confidence wise. In heat 8
he had a terrible gate passed Pearson with ease then just dropped it on the
outside trying to reel in MacDonald. Either his confidence is shot or he is
carrying too many knocks...)

Paul Clews (1.2.3.2) 8
(After a disappointing start he did well including j-u-s-t holding out
Compton in heat 9 after the Diamonds man had to pass Marsh. Unlucky in heat
12 when he looked to have passed Swales when the race was stopped for the
Grant/ Norris clash. Lost the rerun..)

K Marsh (0.1'.F.2)
(Not looking like a rider who is going to hold his place for much longer.
Way off the pace in heat3. Beat MacDonald in heat 5, then looked to be
atoning y holding Compton in heat 9 but his chain snapped - apparently - as
he was passed and he lost third as well. Nicely passed Pearson for 2nd
behind Olsen in race 14 - but looked lack lustre.)

P Morris (3.2.2'.2.1.F) 10+1
(Alittle below par Phil still served up the thrills. A fine cut back on turn
2 saw him pass Compton in heat 4 and a 5-1 over Swales and Olsen in heat 10
were the highlights. Also heat 13 was a cracker with Armando away Compton
managed to split the Racers pair as Morris pressed Compton whilst fending
off Pedersen. Niiice)

M Norris (3.1.1'.1'.1') 7+3
(A tremendous battling display from the lad who certainly hasn't lost his
confidence!
A little lucky to hold on in heat 2 after a splendid start. He locked up on
turn 4 causing a traffic jam around him with Grant and Pearson sent very
wide allowing Colvin in. A highly creditable defeat of heat 8 winner
MacDonald and a stoic display in heat 12 when I thought Grant tried to push
him into the fence out of turn 4. Norris was having none of it and stayed on
his line whilst Grant piled up after running into him. Quite what the upset
Diamonds management had to complain about here is beyond me - did they want
Norris to wave him by or something?)

S Colvin (2'.0.0) 2+1
(Looks a rider bereft of confidence and in need of Conference only. Was
ducking out of challenges again and was supremely fortunate that his calm
inside line saw two errors by the Diamonds pair presenting him with a paid
win in heat 2)

Newcastle 47

B Pedersen (3.3.3.0.3) 12
(as classy a debut as I've seen at Reading - and from no 1 too. Quite
magnificent - untouchable in the lead and won heat 15 to secure the points
for the Diamonds. A star.)

G MacDonald (1.0.3.0)
(Probably the worst he's ridden here and he still managed at heat win as he
always seems to at Reading! )

S Swales (2'.1.0.3)
(Always full value at Reading and no exception here. Valuable paid win in
heat 3 over Clews and possibly the match winner in heat 12 over the same
rider)

J Olsen (3.3.1.3) 10
(Aye caramba! What a rider to have at 4!!! Fast from the tapes his points
were well won. Not as convincing as we've seen him in the past hence no heat
15..)

A Compton (2.2.2.2.1) 9
(Rarely can a rider have ridden so well at Smallmead and failed to win a
heat. Compton was very fast and very impressive indeed - I still can't
believe he didn't win a ride!)

R Grant (1.1'.1'.Fx) 3+2
(Looks a useful sort and I think you Northern folks are correct when you say
he's gonna be a good'un. Made Matt Read look second rate before the Reading
teen fell in heat 8. But was bang out of order in trying to push out Norris
in heat 12. Norris had the line and was going to keep it - Rob should have
throttled off - going at full pelt at Norris was not a good idea)

So Newcastle - good bet for the Young Shield if they can sort out their home
foerm and Reading look vunerable - as last year - to anyone.

Reading have the room to bring in an 8 point man in August and I suspect
they'll do that - they desperately need a third heat leader.
The inability of Read to score any points was desperately disappointing.

News from today's Express and Star.

Wolves are to approach Mikael Karlsson as cover for the injured Sam
Ermolenko for the next month or so. Much will depend on his other
commitments.

Following Saturday's match at Coventry, CVS has fined Wayne Carter £100 and
banned him from next week's match against Eastbourne for the punch which
left Nicki Pedersen needing hospital treatment on a cut near his eye. CVS
stated that this was the second serious incident Carter had been involved in
this year following his fight with Nigel Sadler. Both incidents were
included in the referee's report, and if the club had not disciplined him,
the authority's would have done. He said "There is no place for this kind of
assault"

CVS also explained to Nicki that "on occasions this season, he has been
guilty of a show of temper which we don't need. Both riders have been very
volatile and they have been spoken to about their attitude. I think they
understand how serious the situation is."

Check out Malcolm Cinnamond's excellent report of last night's match at
 http://westmidlands.com/estar/sport/sport04.asp

How many times have you heard Claudia Schiffer mentioned in a speedway
report?

I also love his description of Adam Skornicki as "The man who regularly
proves that the East is just as wild as the West"

All the best,
Mark.
