From Gary Roberts
All three divisions seemed a bit short of riders. They missed the best
track I have seen at Cal Expo all season, which resulted in the best
races too.
Unofficial results Scratch Main 1. Billy Janniro 2. Bobby Hedden 3. Bart Bast 4. Bob Hicks
One of the best races I have seen for a while. Bart Bast made the gate, followed by Billy Janniro. Janniro got past Bast, then Hedden got past Bast. Then Bast was back to second past Hedden, until the final few yards, when Bobby Hedden appeared to get second. I could be wrong, it was very close. All the way through all four riders were close and fast. Truly great Speedway.

The crowd was still small. Far too many empty seats. There was nothing
wrong with the show, or the track. The Save our Sideways Saturdays
(SOSS) campaign got a lot of attention from the diehard supporters. Many
hundreds of posters were distributed around the Sacramento area. What
can possibly be more interesting in Sacramento to do on a Saturday
evening than go to Speedway? I am bewildered.
