Buck Blair and Ricky Wells spearheaded the Industry Hills Aces to a 37-35 victory over the Perris Eagles in the opening match of the 2007 Major Speedway League at Perris Raceway.
The Aces duo entered the nominated heat facing a two-point deficit. Swedish rider Jonas Messing and "Fast" Eddie Castro were sent to the tapes for the Eagles. Blair led and used excellent team riding to block Castro and allow Wells to use the outside to gain second. Blair and Wells stayed in front to score the 5-1 race win and clinch the match for the Aces.
Blair and Robbie Sauer began the match with a 5-1 over Messing and fellow Swede Jens Oskarsson. The teams battled to four straight drawn heats before a Brad Sauer and Greg Ayers combined for a 4-2 over Michael Hull and Brian Starr. Castro won another 3-3 heat before Messing and Oskarsson combined for a 5-1 over Brad Sauer and Ayers. Blair and Robbie Sauer responded with a 4-2 over Hull and Starr before Castro and Mike Bloom earned a 4-2 over Wells and John Marquez to make the score 31-29 in favor of the Aces.
Rudy Laurer and Lee Edwards stunned the Aces pairing of Bryan Buffington and Allen Doss with a 5-1 heat to give the Eagles a 34-32 lead entering the deciding heat.
In addition to the team event, there were eight riders competing to meet the top team riders in the Rider of the Night portion of the meeting. Shawn McConnell, Dale Facchini, Aaron Hesmer, and Ben Essary scored enough points to join the top six team riders.
Blair got the best start in the first semi and was followed into the main event by Wells who finished second. Castro and McConnell finished one-two in the second semi to transfer to the main. Messing led from start-to-finish to win the Consolation.
Castro got the best start in the main, but drifted off the pole in turn two and allowed Blair and Wells to get by. Blair planted himself on the groove and cruised to the win. Wells was second, Castro finished third, and McConnell was fourth.
Brian Pappalardo, mounted on his son's 250 and racing for the first time in a decade, led the Second Division Main for nearly three laps before hitting a hole in turn four and dismounting just before collecting the fence. Rudy Laurer assumed the lead and held it to the checkered flag. Donnie Robinson was second, Max Eddy finished third, Bryan Buffington was fourth, Vince Giamformaggio finished fifth, and Pappalardo was credited with sixth.
Lance Remington led the Third Division Main the entire distance for the victory. Matt Eddy was second, J.C. Masters finished third, Mike Boyle was fourth, Tony DeAlmeida finished fifth, and Jeff Remington was sixth.
Youth National Champion Jason Ramirez dominated the Youth First Division Main Event and took the win. Austin Novratil finished second, Russell Green was third, and Brad Pappalardo finished fourth.
Dylan Black was victorious in the Youth Second Division Main Event. Samuel Ramirez was second, Major Davis finished third, and Rocco Scopellite was fourth.
Garrett Nepi led all four laps of the Pee Wee Main Event en route to victory. Marina Braden was second, Nathan Remington finished third, Erika Lyons was fourth, and Kylee Evans finished fifth.
