A great summers evening for a season opener, with a larger crowd than usual, thanks to the Vintage Motorcycle Rally at the Paris Fairgrounds. Wes Pierce made a guest appearance as the announcer for the evening, giving his usual best at humor and accurate calls on the racing. The American riders were a welcome addition to the competition. The track crew over watered the track in preparation for a sunny evening, but the high humidity stopped it from drying as expected, leaving the track very sloppy at racetime. The early heats were plagued with many falls and slow racing. Chris Hesmer took a bad fall in heat 16, disabling his bike. By the time the final was run, the track had improved to give us a good fast race. Jeff had the gate, and the lead till the end of corner two, then Len took over for the rest of the race.
