The racing was cancelled due to problems with setting up the track surface. Due to opening night problems, the track crew started watering only an hour before the start of practice. Under the top inch of the track, the clay was still dry, enabling the top, tacky clay, to chunk off leaving large holes and ruts. Two hours were spent wheel packing the track to push the water deeper, but the riders and referees all agreed it would be too dangerous to race on. The 400 fans and riders were sent home at 9 PM with a promise of better conditions for next Saturday night. I hope this night hasn't wasted the great job the club has done promoting the track this year.
