Western Washington Tracks
These are the active tracks in Western Washington that are the right
size for us. These promoters have been putting on races for years and
are happy to see any number of Speedway bikes, from one, to a crowd. They
will let us set up our own program within the flat track action.
Rainier, WA
1/8 mile clay, maybe the best track in the Northwest when track
preparation is right. Track is in the town of Rainier at the Rainier
Sportsmans Club grounds. Races are almost always Saturday nights. Signup
2-4:30 pm, racing at 5:30 pm. Info: 360-446-7712
ORV
At the county line between Olympia and McCleary at the Thurston County
ORV park. 1/10 mile clay. Morning practice is "sticky road racing".
Afternoon is usually dry slick but rideable. Most races are on
Sundays.Signup 8-10 am, racing at noon. Info: 425-745-4010
Elma
Indoor winter track. 1/10 mile clay but as of late march 2000, some
straw has been added which made the surface difficult and
un-predictable. Races are usually on Saturday nights with the final race
of their series a day event. Signup 2-4 pm, racing at 6:30 pm. Info 360-446-7992.
Oakwood
Indoor winter track. 1/10 mile packed dirt and horse poop. Conditions
are ‘basic racing’ and fairly primitive. Races are usually on Saturday
nights with the final race of their series a day event. Signup 2-4 pm,
racing at 6:30 pm. Info 360-446-7992
New for 2000 is Hannegan Speedway, which has been reconfigured from a
1/4 mile, high-banked track to a true flat track. We'll be out there on
April 22 to scope it out and assess its suitability for speedway. Info

Of special mention is June 18 at ORV, which the promoters have given us
to put on a Speedway clinic. They're calling it "Speedway Hospitality",
and the intent is to draw more riders to our sport. The program isn't
set yet, but we figure we'll have some spare bikes for people to try,
and someone will talk about Speedway's history and give some pointers
and technique tips. It could be valuable for current speedway racers, too!
