Billy Hamill 2 2 2 0 6
Scott Robson 3 0 1* 0 4 + 1
Shaun Tacey 2* 1* 0 Fx 3 + 2
Heat 1 - Todd Wiltshire ; Greg Hancock ; Roman Povazhny ; Stuart Robson(F)
; 59.9 (4-2)(4-2)
Robson fell while last on last lap
Heat 2 - Scott Robson ; Shaun Tacey ; Lukas Dryml ; Jon Underwood ; 60.9
(1-5)(5-7)
Lukas Dryml holding a comfortable 2nd place until the last lap when he made
2 mistakes to let Tacey in
Heat 3 - Lee Richardson ; Steve Johnston ; George Stancl ; Ales Dryml ;
60.1 (2-4)(7-11)
Dryml got to the 1st corner first but got it all worng and ending up last
coming out of the 2nd bend. Excellent catch and pass of Stancl by Johno
Heat 4 - Jimmy Nilsen ; Billy Hamill ; Shaun Tacey ; Jon Underwood ; 60.4
(3-3)(10-14)
Comfortable win for Jimmy
Heat 5 - Greg Hancock ; Stuart Robson ; Ales Dryml ; Steve Johnston(X) ;
61.3 (1-5)(11-19)
The first talking point. The Coventry pair made the start, Hancock slowed
dramatically on the back straight to try and get his partner up to him and
Johno drove between the two with Hancock bailing out into the 3rd turn.
Looked 50/50 to me and Hancock went doen very late. The sort that which ever
side you support you think it should go for you. Video was inconclusive but
I guess the ref would give it this way the majority of the time. Dryml well
in contention in the rerun
Heat 6 - Todd Wiltshire ; Billy Hamill ; Roman Povazhny ; Scott Robson ;
60.2 (4-2)(15-21)
Cheetahs pair gated and Hamill went down on 2nd bend. Somehow our referee
saw this as 1st bend bunching and called them all back. Hamill of course
gated but was soon caught by Wiltshire
Heat 7 - Lee Richardson ; Jimmy Nilsen ; George Stancl ; Lukas Dryml ; 60.3
(2-4)(17-25)
Nothing much to say
Heat 8 - Todd Wiltshire ; Roman Povazhny ; Stuart Robson ; Shaun Tacey ;
61.1 (5-1)(22-26)
Cheetahs Tac sub saw Wiltshire get the drop and followed home comfortably by
Povazhny
Heat 9 - Steve Johnston ; Billy Hamill ; Scott Robson ; Ales Dryml(X) ;
60.8 (3-3)(25-29)
The craziest refereeing decision of the lot. All four hit the 1st bend
together and Dryml being on the outside ran out of room. The prat of a ref
excluded him for his crimes. All we ask is consistency, In Heat 6 is was all
4 back on bend 2 and this time an exclusion. Johnop won the rerun by a mile
but giving Scott Robson a gift point
Heat 10 - Lee Richardson ; Roman Povazhny ; Todd Wiltshire ; George Stancl ;
60.6 (3-3)(28-32)
Richardson rode a hard 1st corner just getting the drop on Wiltshire and
forcing him off line for an easy win
Heat 11 - Greg Hancock ; Jimmy Nilsen ; Stuart Robson ; Jon Underwood ; 61.3
(2-4)(30-36)
Jimmy surely knew a race win was not required and despite making the start
Hancock passed him on lap 3 to ensure Oxford could make the double tac sub
in Heat 12
Heat 12 - Jimmy Nilsen ; Lee Richardson ; Steve Johnston ; Scott Robson ;
60.8 (4-2)(34-38)
Exclellent race with Richardson splitting the Oxford pair
Heat 13 - Greg Hancock ; Jimmy Nilsen ; Todd Wiltshire ; Billy Hamill ; 61.5
(3-3)(37-41)
Hancock too quick off the line with Hamill packing up while last
Heat 14 - George Stancl ; Steve Johnston ; Lukas Dryml ; Shaun Tacey(Fx) ;
Aw (3-3)(40-44)
What a time to make the start for Stancl. Johno chased hard but couldn't get
on terms. Dryml led Tacey only to let him in, Tacey then rode a kamikaze
line in the 3/4 bends and hit the fence as they entered the last lap
Heat 15 - Greg Hancock ; Jimmy Nilsen ; Todd Wiltshire ; Lee Richardson ;
61.1 (3-3)(43-47)
Again the fast starting Hancock from the gate and Richardson chasing hard
but not able to pass
All in all a better Cheetahs performance. Wiltshire was very solid and along
with Nilsen is proving a potent spearhead, Johno rode better than his score
and Povazhny was excellent. The Dryml's were much improved in their riding
and far more competitive than they have been. Jon Underwood continues to
struggle but nobody is expecting too much from him
For Coventry, well this really was a chance for the Cheetahs to beat them.
Hancock and Richardson were top class but the rest struggled. Hamill was way
off the pace, Stancl done nothing until Heat 14 and Stuart Robson and Tacey
were far from their normal Oxford performances. Scott Robson looked much
improved and was always in contention.
The referee tonight Jim McGregor was appalling. He held the riders for a
ridiculous amount of time at the tapes, allowed them to move about at the
tapes as much as they wanted and got the basic decisions wrong (in my
opinion). He also stopped the Oxford riders from having a practice session
during the 2nd half Veterans meeting saying that practice could not take
place during an oficial meeting. Only 30 minutes earlier he had allowed Adam
Shields to haev a practice session between Heats 14 and 15. So damn
inconsistent
So noe for 3 in 3 days next weekend when Belle Vue visit on Friday followed
by visits to Eastbourne and Belle Vue. Hopefully this is one of BV's 3 away
meetings and we will win as they drop those averages
Oxford Averages after 2 home and 2 away
Wiltshire 9.17
Povazhny 4.29
A Dryml 0.67
Johnston 7.09
Nilsen 8.36
L Dryml 2.77
Underwood 0.67
Total allowing for 3 point min
37.91
A little scope there I fancy

Best race of the night, but the Lynn track didn't look up to its usual
standard - Boyce was later beaten convincingly by Svab.
Just got home from Compost Corner where there was a big crowd. Major
embarrassment for me as my bizarre day took an even stranger turn when I
slipped and fell on the gravel outside the stadium, damaging the palm of my
left hand, ripping skin of my right wrist and right knee!
Strange night for the Witches, who took the Knights really close without
ever looking good enough to get anything from the match, but ironically
probably deserved more than they got in the afternoon. At least Bryn didn't
get his win double :-)
Another 9 last places for the Witches at KL, to go with their TEN at home.
To only go down by four overall shows what an enigmatic performance it was
on the day. At KL, the Knights only actual last place came in the last
heat, which Crump won to seal victory with Adams at the back - before that
their five non-scorers were retirements of falls, with four of those in
scoring positions.
Clouting was again awful (all points gifted), and was subjected to booing by
many of the travelling fans.
Overall, encouraging signs for the Witches, who could have been ripped apart
by the Knights, but are definitely a rider or two short to support the brave
efforts of the top four.
Cheers,
Dave Love

You need a TV3 (Viasat) card to see the channel. Unfortunately it is
digital, and on a different satelite than for instance TV3 and Eurosport
(I think it`s 5` east). Some people in Norway and Sweden have it on
cable though, but my network is not digitalized yet, and it will not be
until the autumn.

Dear fubar,
One man doesn't make a team, and as good a rider as Jason Lyons is, being
Australian doesn't make any difference to the fact that his team-mates
currently combine to make the Y2K Aces a disgrace to the name of the great
BV teams of the past. I said before the season started that they were crap,
and they are living up to my expectations :-) I feel sorry for Lyons
staying loyal to the Aces when his promoters clearly haven't got a clue.
Cheers,
Dave Love

Funny to see all the Ipswich supporters silenced after the losses
yesterday. Gee and what a performance by the Lynn riders.
Great to see another big mouth silenced ie; one Mr Dave love (whom
wasn't very loved at the time.) After slagging his own riders off a
certain Mrs CLOUTING got up and clouted Mr Love good on ya
Dot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While on the subject I am thinking of doing the tractor driver for GBH
after another little incident after unfare track preparation, which is a
common accurance at Foxhall.
God you Ipswich fans are so easy to stir up.

Edinburgh Monarchs 43: Workington Comets 50
Premier National Trophy
Lothian Arena, Armadale
Friday 21st April 2000
Edinburgh received a body blow before the match when Ross Brady withdrew
following a failure to recover in time from his foot injury. This left
Monarchs with a mountain to climb if they were to contain a rampant Comets
side stuffed with Armadale specialists.
Monarchs recovered from a poor start when little went their way and came to
within a single point of the visitors after a heat 8 golden double. Without
Brady they were unable to cope with the strength of the Workington top-four
led by the unstoppable Carl Stonehewer. The match went to a last heat
decider but Peter Carr was excluded and that was that.
There were many parallels with Monarchs' defeat by Newcastle in the opening
home Premier National Trophy meeting last year. Monarchs recovered from
that to go on and qualify and indeed went all the way to the final.
The weather was threatening with some rain earlier in the day. It held off
for most of the meeting although there was one shower before heat 11. The
crowd was the largest of the season buoyed up by a massive Workington
contingent.
Monarch's Captain Peter Carr predictably lost the toss. Gate position A
operated after Workington went for 2 and 4 for the first heat.
Heat 1: Carl Stonehewer, Kevin Little, Barry Campbell, Blair Scott [57.9]
Carl Stonehewer was away well and after seeing off Kevin Little on the
second bend never looked like losing. Blair Scott made a fair start and
seemed set to tie the heat. His bike appeared to lack speed and Barry
Campbell soon passed Blair on the inside.
(2-4) (2-4)
Heat 2: Lee Smethills, Geoff Powell, Brian Turner [61.0]
Christian Henry made a storming start from gate 4 and was followed by Brian
Turner. Geoff Powell kept up the chase and had a surge on the third bend of
the penultimate lap but Turner held on. The heat seemed set for Monarchs'
5-1 when Henry fell on the last bend and balked Turner in the process. The
referee controversially ordered a rerun with Henry excluded, rather than
award the heat to Turner. In the rerun, Turner was sandwiched from gate 2
after missing the start and could not get back on terms.
(1-5) (3-9)
Heat 3: Peter Carr, Peter Karlsson, Mick Powell, Christian Henry [57.9]
Christian Henry came in as rider replacement but was unable to cope with
the powerful Workington pairing. Peter Carr had little difficulty in
winning after an incredible second bend turn enabled him to recover from a
poor start.
(3-3) (6-12)
Heat 4: Robert Eriksson, Brent Werner, Christian Henry, Lee Smethills [58.1]
Eriksson made a storming start to win without difficulty. Christian Henry
made a good start and was briefly second before losing position and
slipping to last. He stormed back to pass Lee Smethills and secure
Edinburgh a heat advantage.
(4-2) (10-14)
Heat 5: Carl Stonehewer, Peter Carr, Barry Campbell, Blair Scott [57.8]
Carr managed to force himself into the lead ahead of Stonehewer and rider
replacement Blair Scott. Carl came back with an outside pass to take the
lead. Even worse, Blair Scott, again hampered by lack of speed, was picked
off by Barry Campbell.
(2-4) (12-18)
Heat 6: Kevin Little, Brent Werner, Blair Scott, Geoff Powell [59.3]
Brent Werner was nearly excluded after his bike failed on the line. Mick
Powell's bike was brought out just in time. Little and Scott gated and
looked set for a 5-1 until Werner pulled off a last gasp pass of Scott on
the line.
(4-2) (16-20)
Heat 7: Peter Karlsson, Mick Powell, Robert Eriksson, Brian Turner [58.5]
Robert Eriksson missed the start and stayed in third place. This loss gave
an advantage to Edinburgh in being able to pull a golden double in heat 8.
(1-5) (17-25)
Heat 8: Peter Carr, Kevin Little, Lee Smethills [59.8]
The inevitable happened and Carr and Little were introduced as tactical
substitutes for Scott and Henry. They faced Campbell and Smethills with
Carr on the back start line. Kevin Little gated and it took Carr half a lap
to pass Smethills and just over a lap to pass Campbell. Barry got himself
into trouble and hit the second bend fence and was excluded. He was taken
off in the ambulance and missed his final ride. The rerun proved easy
although Smethills made a good start and it took Carr a couple of laps to
get past. The only doubt was whether Carr would catch Little who showed no
signs of slowing down. While many thought that the pair went across the
line together, the verdict went to Carr.
(8-1) (25-26)
Heat 9: Peter Carr, Brent Werner, Geoff Powell, Christian Henry [58.4]
Christian Henry came in as rider replacement. Peter Carr had another win
but Henry finished last.
(3-3) (28-29)
Heat 10: Mick Powell, Kevin Little, Blair Scott, Peter Karlsson [59.3]
Blair Scott found his bike a bit faster after some adjustments and held
position to beat Peter Karlsson for third place. Kevin Little could do
nothing about Mick Powell and the margin stayed at one point to the visitors.
(3-3) (31-32)
Heat 11: Carl Stonehewer, Robert Eriksson, Geoff Powell, Brian Turner [61.1]
Eriksson and Stonehewer went into the second bend elbow to elbow.
Stonehewer edged it and pushed Eriksson wide. Brian Turner was unable to
get past reserve replacement Geoff Powell and the margin was back at three
points.
(2-4) (33-36)
Heat 12: Peter Carr, Mick Powell, Christian Henry [59.4]
Peter Carr won against Mick Powell and the rapidly improving Christian
Henry beat Geoff Powell to cut the margin once more.
(4-2) (37-38)
Heat 13: Carl Stonehewer, Robert Eriksson, Brent Werner, Kevin Little [59.1]
Stonehewer again muscled Eriksson wide on the second bend. Eriksson
recovered to take second place but with Little trailing, the margin was
increased once more.
(2-4) (39-42)
Heat 14: Peter Karlsson, Kevin Little, Christian Henry, Lee Smethills [59.8]
Kevin Little in as rider replacement really needed a heat win. It didn't
happen. Peter Karlsson made that start and never looked like being caught.
Christian Henry, in as a reserve change, had another good ride to tie the
heat.
(3-3) (42-45)
Heat 15: Carl Stonehewer, Mick Powell, Robert Eriksson [59.7]
The riders were bunched with Stonehewer just ahead when Powell went down on
the fourth bend. Carr complained that he needed little encouragement but
nevertheless was excluded. Bar a double engine failure by Workington, the
rerun became academic. Carl Stonehewer and Mick Powell led Eriksson home.
(1-5) (43-50)
Edinburgh Monarchs
Kevin Little 2 3 2* 2 0 2 10+1
Blair Scott 0 0 1 1* 2+1
Peter Carr 3 2 6 3 3 X 17
Ross Brady Rider replacement (2)
Robert Eriksson 3 1 2 2 1 9
Brian Turner 1 0 0 1
Christian Henry X 0 1 0 1 1* 3+1
Workington Comets
Carl Stonehewer 3 3 3 3 3 15
Barry Campbell 1 1 X 2
Mick Powell 1* 2* 3 2 2* 10+3
Peter Karlsson 2 3 0 3 8
Brent Werner 2 2 2 1 7
Geoff Powell 2* 0 1* 1 0 4+2
Lee Smethills 3 0 1 0 4
Peter Carr led the way for Monarchs but suffered a defeat from the back by
Stonehewer and a last heat exclusion. Kevin Little was steady and gated
well but looked rather slow and was beaten by all of the Comets' top four.
Robert Eriksson looked good but had the misfortune to encounter Stonehewer
three times. He also ran third in heat 7 but was that a tactical move? With
Ross Brady absent, Edinburgh didn't have the firepower to win races. His
four programmed rides produced a mere two points.
Blair Scott had a troubled evening. He was lacking speed on his bike
although adjustments seemed to fix that by his last ride. He was taken from
the back three times in his first three rides. Brian Turner also looked
down on speed but was very unlucky not to have been awarded heat 2.
Christian Henry was the main success story of the night although it is not
reflected in his score. He managed six rides and seemed set to win heat two
until he fell. He was always on the pace. His gating has been transformed
by a new clutch. The points will flow if he can sustain this improvement.
Stonehewer was in unstoppable form. He had a couple of hard second bends
against Eriksson and passed Peter Carr. Mick Powell displayed his usual
Armadale form, as did Brent Werner. Powell and Werner were first choice
guests for Edinburgh at Armadale last season and showed why. Peter Karlsson
made a great Armadale debut.
Geoff Powell and Lee Smethills made the most of their good fortune in heat
2. Powell went on to beat both Henry and Turner in subsequent heats.
Man of the match: Carl Stonehewer

A powerful display by the Tigers to blunt the Diamonds. Sean looked
invincible until he was out paced from the start by Pickers in heat
13. Paul was another who was only beaten by Pickers, until nominated
for heat 15. After a slow start he clipped the fence looking for a
way around Stuart Swales. Robbie made five perfect starts and then
rode intelligently and never looked like being passed. Simon's
first two rides saw him going backwards, but in heat 9 he held out
Jesper Olsen for a paid win. Steady was just that, moving from last
to join his cousin at the front in heat 4 in a fine bit of team
riding, and rounding Stuart Swales in heat 7. James looked like he'd
never been out of the saddle passing both Diamonds reserves
simultaneously on the third bend in heat 2, and Adam made a brilliant
start before suffering more engine problems.
Newcastle had a suspect tail, and a suspect middle order, and with
one heat leader out of sorts they were easy prey for the rampant
Tigers. Stuart Swales rode better than I expected and was the only
Diamond to win a race, while Paul Pickering made a cautious start
before claiming three wins.

Pirates celebrations of notching up a surprise second away win of the season
by 10 points was tempered with the news that early hero Alun Rossiter, back
in Poole colours, sustained a broken collarbone when he crashed out of heat
10. Rossiter had made a terrific start winning his first two rides, the
second in fine style as he foiled every move that Hamill could throw at him.
Poole took control from the off with Gunnestad and Havelock proving much too
strong for Hancock in heat one and with Rossiter and Nicholls taking
maximum points in heat 3 before Havvy and Lars were at it again in 5, Poole
were well in command by the time that Coventry recorded their first heat
advantage. That was courtesy of a tactical outing for Hancock in heat 8
when he was supported by an impressive ride from reserve Scott Robson
pushingGunnestad all the way. Loram foiled Coventry's second tactical
substitute move by beating Hamill in heat 9 and then came that Rossiter
incident. With the Bees claiming another 4-2 they slowly began to haul back
the deficit with on-the-bounce heat wins for Richardson in 11 and 12. But
Loram and Havelock swung the match back in Poole's favour with an impressive
5-1 in heat 13 before Lindqvist's first Poole race win could not have been
more timely in heat 14.
Not many sides will win at Coventry this year, few will earn the bonus
point. This was a good performance by Poole and certainly made up for the
run of engine failures they endured in the Wimborne Road encounter.
