Just to give all of you non-Australian supporters an idea of what =
Gosford Showground is like=20
at present, it's like going to Stoke or Armadale - only there's no bar ! =
 Almost all viewing facilities=20
(ie: wet grass hills with no seating and a miniscule 'stand' on the main =
straight) are nearly at=20
ground level. The safety fence is of wood, ie: not see-through.=20
So Mr Tapp - in my opinion - would have quite a bit of spending to do =
to bring *spectator* facilities up to Premier League standard. But from =
what I have read, Tapp is only spending=20
cash to alter the track and upgrade facilities for the riders (eg: =
showers).
As we well know through what has been written in UK Speedway Star, MA =
and David Tapp do=20
not exactly agree on many issues. First of all, MA have to pass the new =
track when it is widened.
As for Trevor Harding, his only role at present is to liase with =
Motorcycling Australia. He sold Kwiksnax years ago. Just what is planned =
for next season can only at present be pure speculation, other than Tapp =
declaring (in his very own speedway magazine) that mssrs Hamill and =
Hancock MIGHT come to Australia in 2001. =20

Thanks for the correction on Trev Steve, (didn't know he sold it)and the
"positive spin" as usual on Gosford track. But I'm sure given time Gosford
can be brought upto as you quote "premier League" standard..........But
Terry and all the hard working people behind the scenes have had to contend
with various other bodies and factors over the years inhibiting him from
improving the venue. Anyway lets just see what eventuates and perhaps look
forward to any improvement without all the negative and impartiality stuff
even before a shovel full of dirt is turned. Australian Speedway could do
with a break from all the B.S. flying around from various camps and
divisions and the so-called experts (computer commandos) who have a habit of
spreading nepotism and negative spins which are only bringing this sport
down in this country. All i can say at least someone is willin to have go
and breathe some life into the old girl yet again. Sort of like how the
local bike scene was prior to 1995 when a new initiative brought it back
from the brink then as well..........Hear from ya soon Buddy...Cheers Anth

Subject: GP not live in Oz
Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2000 18:46:40 +1000

Howdy All,
=20
I've been informed by David Tapp that the Swedish Grand =
Prix will not be televised Live into Australia on the Pay TV Sports =
Channel C7 due to a prior committment to the England V West Indies test =
match. The GP WILL however be shown on Sunday morning at 10.00 am and =
then repeated at 7.00pm that night. Tappy was less than impressed to =
find this out but the decision was a Programming one and unavoidable. =
The Pay TV guide has the GP pencilled in for Tuesday night at =
11.00pm!!!!=20
All 4 remaining GP's WILL be shown Live.

Cheers,

The Knights were made to work hard, particularly for the bonus point, by
an Oxford side who relied almost exclusively on their three heat leaders.

Torrential rain on Sunday, and more early Monday afternoon had created
some doubt as to whether the meeting would go ahead.

A big black cloud headed towards the stadium around an hour before the
scheduled start - thankfully that moved away and the trackstaff duo of
Huggy and Keith Chapman set to work.

In just over an hour they completely removed the wet top surface and
relaid the circuit completely and I'm sure that anyone else who was at
the meeting, like me, can only be amazed at their efforts. In all
probability, at any other British circuit given the conditions and
earlier rain, the meeting would have been off.

On it went though and 21-21 after 7 heats tells its own story.

Oxford were left ruing the decision to track Mark Lemon who clearly was
struggling with the injuries he sustained in the corresponding match at
Oxford. That led to him withdrawing from the meeting after two pointless
rides.

Heat 8 saw the deadlock broken - Ales Dryml fell - Lynn were on for a 4-2
when Steve Masters seized his engine on the second lap.

Heats 9, 10 & 11 all produced advantages to the Knights - Oxford tactical
moves looked to have given them a chance of salvaging the bonus point but
5-1s from Jason Crump and Leigh Adams (completing another impeccable paid
max) in heats 13&15 ensured all three points for the Knights and top
spot in the Elite League table.

All too easy for the Barracuda Braves as they stormed to a 28 point
victory, avenged the defeat at Hoddesdon and claimed the bonus point in
the process.

With four riders scoring just two points between them, the Silverski
Rockets were no match for the home side who were rock solid from top to
bottom.

Freddie Stephenson practised after the meeting and comes into the Boston
side at the weekend, debuting at Buxton and Dean Garrod is the man
stepping aside in his favour.
