A relatively straightforward victory for the Wightlink Islanders despite
losing the services of key second string Danny Bird when he crashed in
his second ride.
That was in the second staging of the race - Gary Corbett taking a tumble
in the first attempt.
Danny was lying second behind partner Adam Shields, way ahead of third
placed man Colin White when, entering the third bend of the second lap he
lost control and careered at speed into the safety fence.
Arena failed to take any real advantage from Bird's absence although
Colin White (who inflicted a rare home defeat on Ray Morton in the
opening heat) and Matt Read battled hard showing a distinct liking for
the big, pacy Island circuit.
The main difference between the two sides came at reserve where the
Islanders' pairing of ex-Hammer Tommy Palmer and 17 year old Glen
Phillips amassed a paid 18 point total between them as opposed the their
Arena counterparts who registered just one point from six rides.

Subject: CRUMP OUT OF TV CLASH
Date: Wed, 14 Jun 00 13:04:55 +0100
PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY KING'S LYNN SPEEDWAY EARLIER THIS MORNING
(WEDNESDAY).......
CRUMPIE OUT AS COMEBACK BID FAILS....
King's Lynn's Australian Grand Prix star Jason Crump is OUT of
tonight's televised league match against local rivals Ipswich at
the Norfolk Arena.
He's been sidelined with knee ligament damage since his horrendous
crash in the Swedish Grand Prix at Linkoping a week ago last Saturday.
He attempted a comeback to the saddle last night (Tuesday) for his
Swedish club Vargarna but was forced to pull up in pain in his last
ride.
He immediately telephoned Knights boss Nigel Wagstaff to break the
bad news and the latter has moved swiftly to obtain the services of
Belle Vue's Australian International and Overseas Finalist Jason
Lyons as a guest replacement.
Crump was hoping to get an early morning flight back to the UK and
then take himself off to a specialist to seek further treatment.
He hopes to be able to come along to the stadium to cheer on the
Knights although he is bitterly disappointed that he himself won't
be able to ride.
TEAMS FOR TONIGHT:
KING'S LYNN: 1. Jason Lyons (Guest); 2. Travis McGowan; 3. Craig
Boyce; 4. Shane Parker; 5. Leigh Adams (C); 6. Steve Masters; 7. Tom
Madsen
IPSWICH: 1. Chris Louis; 2. Jeremy Doncaster; 3. Toni Svab; 4. Matej
Ferjan; 5. Tomasz Gollob; 6. Lawrence Hare; 7. Jason Bunyan.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TONIGHT'S MEETING STARTS EARLIER THAN USUAL AT
7.30pm AS THE MEETING IS BEING TELEVISED LIVE BY SKY TV.
