LONGRTRACK, FINNISH CHAMPIONCHIPS, VAASA, 12.8.2000=20
ONE MORE TO GO FOR JARI KORTELAINEN
Kortelainen won his 6th (3rd in a row) Longtrack Finnish Championchip
Saturday night at Vaasa track.
He won also A-final which saw Janne Koivula to come second and Risto Einola 3rd.
Jari Ahlbom was 4th. These were also the final results of the night. One
more for Kortelainen and he will share all time finnish record in number of
longtrack championchips, 7, together with Timo Laine.
There was battle inside battle this time. Another battle - not for title -
was between weather and organisers. Heavy rainshowers teased VaMk organisers
all day and once there was ding-dong situation cancel the race or not.
Luckily rain slowly died away and practise and race were able to run. Track
itself was in difficult condition because of the rain cutting the speed a
bit.
Championchip race was open this year and 2 norwegian riders was expected to
arrive to Vaasa. We got only one - Marius R=F6keberg - as Kjell Roine Heia
didn=B4t show up. According to R=F6keberg Heia didn=B4t have a engine for race.
Marius itself was unlucky to loose his only engine at finish line of first
heat, machine broke completely.
Racing itself suffered a bit because of wet track. Because some of riders
didn=B4t show up added by few engine failures in practise, race ended up
riders short heats. For example heat 2 saw only 2 men, Jari Kortelainen and
Risto Einola, but was maybe best heat of the night as riders battled for
win till very end.
One of the favourites, Mikko Rahko, lost his chances in semifinals as his
bike jumped from start literally out of riders hands.
Class-B was won by Pekka "Glenn" Kortelainen. Only threat for Pekka came
from Janne Kastren, who proved to be a fast one in practise and first heat
but was suffered engine problems through the race since that. For final
Janne manage to borrow bike but without any experience with it he couldn't
battle properly for title - ending up to second place.

KAUKO NIEMINEN IN CLASS OF HIS OWN
Kake Nieminen took U-21 Finnish Championchip speedway title last Sunday at
Seinajoki track.
He didn=B4t drop a point and no-one could produce seriuos threat for his
victory. Title was his 3rd in a row.
Nieminen is definitely most promising U-21 rider in Finland at the moment.
Juha Hautamaki got silver and bronze medal went to Mico Brotkin. Mico is
racing his first 500cc season.=20
14 riders were enrolled to the meeting, but when 2 of the riders didn't show
up and Markus Helin was injured in first heat race was suffering of rider
short heats.
