Speedway Long Track National Championship Up for Grabs

The title has been in Canada four times, and the USA four times in the last eight years.

This year’s Speedway Long Track National Championship has the ingredients to be a real thriller. Top riders from the US and Canada will go handlebar to handlebar in pursuit of the Speedway L-T Championship at the Napoleon Harley Davidson Wauseon National M-C Race Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon, Ohio.

Chad Rall is the current Speedway Long Track National Champion, and 3-time Ohio Speedway Long Track Champion. Rall from Mansfield, Ohio, riding a Breece H-D Jawa, will head the USA effort to retain the title, and keep the Championship on US soil. 

Dan Weight the 2011, 2012, and 2013 Speedway Long Track National Champion from North Webster, Indiana has registered his GEARS sponsored Jawa on another quest for the title.

Alan Rush from Speedway, Indiana on an INDY JRM, Aria Helmets sponsored Jawa finished runner-up in 2014, and will be trying for the top step on the podium this year. Other notables that are registered for the Big Show are Chris Hathaway from Syracuse, Indiana that placed 5th in the Championship, and Jon Massie from Wooster, Ohio on a JM Trucking Jawa won the B main last year.

Riders on the roster from Canada are - Kyle Legault and Terry Rideout. Legault was a former rider for the Newport Wasps in British Speedway’s Premier League, and has won the Canadian National Speedway Championship in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2013. Legault’s last quest for the US Speedway Long Track National Championship was 2010 in Canton, Ohio. Kyle had the first leg of the Championship in the bag, until he encountered a fuel problem that ended his run for the Championship, which allowed fellow Canadian, Jeff Orosz, to clinch his fourth title. Legault will be riding one of his special GM Grand Prix bikes, and stated “I will be selling one of my GP bikes as well as a ton of extra, top of the line GP standard parts.”

Terry Rideout from Freelton, Ontario, Canada will be competing in the National aboard a Jawa. Rideout has been riding Speedway for 10 years, and his resume includes #1 in the 2013 CMA National, and the 2014 CMA National/Provincial.

Friday's race schedule - the pit gate opens at 10 am, Hot Laps at 2:15 pm, Heat races 4:30 pm and Opening Ceremonies at 6:30 pm.  The Opening Ceremonies feature Timm Reid and Megan Brown’s trumpet duet of the National Anthem, and the Invocation by Bill Goebel. The racing showcases bikes that span the era of motorcycle racing starting with the origins of the sport:  Board Track bikes (teens thru 1928), Handshift bikes (1936 thru 1951), Lightweight bikes (1948 thru 1966), Brakeless Foot Shift bikes (thru 1967), 1970's Single Cylinder bikes, 1980's Single Cylinder bikes, and Vintage Twins (thru 1983). Race track announcers Bob Sigler of Ohio Outlaw Motorsports and Donnie Norris will be calling the action.

SHOWDOWN at SUNDOWN - will feature the rematch of Jay “Springer” Springsteen riding a 1954 HARLEY DAVIDSON KR750 prepared by Bernie Breece vs George "Geo" Roeder riding a 1948 INDIAN CHIEF prepared by Kelley George.

AMCA's 33rd Annual Wauseon National Meet- The theme of this year’s meet is the Barn Find Motorcycle.  The huge swap meet has over 700 vendors for bikes and parts over 35 years old.  Shop all day Friday, Saturday and until noon on Sunday at the 33rd annual meet organized by the Ohio Valley Chapter, Lake Erie Chapter, River Valley Chapter, Maumee Valley Chapter, and the Wolverine Chapter.  Gates open to the public each day at 8 am.  Saturday offers a Bike Parade, Adult and Children’s Field Games, Silent Auction, a delicious BBQ banquet with free live music for everyone.  The AMCA motorcycle judging takes place Sunday.  For general information go to www.wauseonnationalmeet.org

Enjoy this local family friendly event at affordable prices.  General grandstand admission is $20 for adults, kids ages 6-12 $5 and 5 and under are Free.  General admission tickets go on sale at the Grandstands starting noon on Friday.
