Mid-America News

Yesterday's rains are going to keep us from racing today. With the forecast calling for a high of only 53 degrees and very little wind there is simply not enough time to get the track dried in shape to provide a safe and exciting race surface. Our next race is October 20th and then our always popular Halloween Race on October 27th.

Mid-America Speedway (October 6, 2012)

Mid-America News

Last weekend's event was one of our most successful yet with many classes having multiple heats. Nearly every rider commented on the excellent condition of the track. While we do not keep track of lap times, Sam Lowe won his heat in the 450 Class with a 1:31:273 time which is the fastest six lap heat time that anybody in the scoring booth can remember. There were a total of 23 heats and 17 main events, and the entire program was completed in three hours.

If you missed last weeks race, you only have three more chances to ride one of the best prepped track in the Midwest before the 2012 season is over. The starter will line everybody up again this Saturday, October 6th. Rider's meeting is at 4:30pm, practice at 5:00pm, and heats start promptly at 7:00pm. The point battles in many classes are very tight which will translate into some great racing on one of the best prepared tracks in the country. After this weekends event, the season finishes out with events on October 20th, and our very popular Halloween race on October 27th.

Mid-America News

Most tracks are winding their 2012 season down, but Mid-America refuses to be like most tracks, and we still have four events left on the 2012 schedule. The starter will once again display the green flag this Saturday, September 29th at Mid-America Speedway. Rider's meeting is at 4:30pm, practice at 5:00pm, and heats start promptly at 7:00pm. The point battles in many classes are very tight which will translate into some great racing on one of the best prepared tracks in the country. After this weekends event, the season finishes out with events on October 6th, 20th, and our very popular Halloween race on October 27th.

According to Mid America on Facebook, tonight's races are cancelled.

Mid-America News

We received 2.8" of rain at the track last night and while we wanted to get the race in as much as anyone there was just too much water down to make the track safe and smooth. Our next event is September 15th and where we will be paying $100 per cylinder to the winning rider in the Heavy Vintage class. If you have not made it out to Mid-America yet, please consider joining us on one of the smoothest short tracks in the country. For those that regularly attend our events, thank you for the support and we hope to see you at our next event.

Night Before the Indy Mile Wrapup

The 2012 Night Before the Mile sponsored by Harley Davidson of Bloomington, Indiana was once again a huge success.

With 47 riders in the 450 Money Class chasing after a purse of over $4,000 many of the best riders in the country showed up hoping to earn a share of the purse. Last year Jared Mees won after starting from the third row. This year Jared won his heat, and led every lap of the 20 lap main event.

Rounding out the top five were Henry Wiles, JD Beach, Sammy Halbert, and Rob Pearson. Additionally Halbert, Mees, Wiles, and Pearson all finished in the top seven at the Indy Mile on Saturday night.

A total of 47 riders singed up for this years event including flattrack legend Chris Carr. Unfortunately, Chris barely missed the main event, but later commented that he had a great time and will be back. The Bob Starke Indian Arrow Challenge also saw a repeat winner with Kevin Snyder winning for the second year in a row, followed by Jason Griffin, and Andy McRoberts.

Mid-America News

Racing resumes at Mid-America this Saturday, July 28th. The featured class this week is 50+ Super Senior and we will be giving $75 to the race winner, $50 for second, and $25 to the oldest rider finishing 3rd through last in the main event. The regular trophy/buyback will also be added to the bonus awards

We also need to ask that only tow vehicles enter the pits. With the rider counts that we have been getting, we have run out of room for non-essential vehicles in the pits.

We have been hard at work all week bringing the track up to the standard that we have been known for and we are confident that you will be pleased with the results.

The MotoGP event is just a little over three weeks away. Here is the press release that was sent out to various members of the motorcycle media earlier today:

Mid-America is once again putting on their MotoGP/Indianapolis Mile weekend event on Friday, August 17th. This year's program will see fewer classes being run during this year's event so that the event can be completed in three hours. The showcase class at this year's race is the 450 class which will has a total purse of $4000, and $1500 to win. Forty riders signed up for the 450 class at last year's event, which was won by Jared Mee's who earned his win the hard way after having to win his semi to make the main event and starting from the row three. Mick Kirkness finished second, and Rob Pearson claimed the third position.

The 2012 event currently has 24 riders signed up for the 450 class with 13 current/former experts, and 9 Pro riders. Other classes that will be offered are 250 money, 30+ Veteran, 50+ Super Senior, Vintage Light, 85-200 youth, and Open Quad. Mid-America is also thrilled to announce that Mike O'Neill is making a return to Indianapolis with his beautiful seven identical 1949 Indian Arrows. Mike does not bring the Indian Arrows out very often so we are honored that he has decided to return to Mid-America for the second year in a row.

For more details please visit: www.midamspeedway.com, where links to the current rider roster, purse and class info can be found on the track's homepage.

Heat and class sponsorships are currently being accepted. Mid-America realizes that professional motorcycle racing is a difficult way to make a living. With that said, 100% of all sponsorship money that is generated will go to the riders.

Rider's that are planning on attending are encouraged to send their name, number, class, and sponsors via to email/text so that we can add you to the program.

Important times to remember:
Riders Meeting: 4:00pm
Practice: 4:30pm

2012 Speedway Long Track National Championship

Speedway Long Track National Championship
in Wauseon, Ohio - Friday, July 20, 2012

The Speedway Long Track National Championship Motorcycle Race will take place on the limestone half mile dirt track at the Fulton County Fairgrounds during the 30th annual AMCA Wauseon National meet.

The 2011 Speedway Long Track Champions Dan Weicht, runner up Chad Rall and Mike Hammond third.

The Speedway Long Track National Championship - Racers are registered from California, Indiana, Michigan, North Dakota, and Ohio in pursuit of the #1 Plate representing the National Championship.

The motorcycles used for speedway are not remotely like any machine you will ever see on the roads. They have acceleration equal to a Formula One racing car, but rather surprisingly have NO BRAKES, rear suspension or gears. For the technically minded, the engines are 500cc single cylinder four valve, four strokes with air cooling. Methanol is used instead of gasoline to enable them to run at very high compression ratios.

Friday night's racing program will include classes of bikes that span the era of motorcycle racing starting with the origins of the sport: Board Track bikes (teens thru 1928), Handshift bikes (1936 thru 1951), Lightweight bikes (1948 thru 1966), Brakeless Foot Shift bikes (thru 1967), 1970's Single Cylinder bikes, 1980's Single Cylinder bikes, Vintage Twins (thru 1983)

The Board Track class (teens thru 1928) will take to the track at the Wauseon National on Friday, July 20.

Board Track racing was a type of motorsport popular in the United States between the second and third decades of the 20th century. Competition was conducted on oval race courses with surfaces composed of wooden planks. By the early 1930's Board Track racing had fallen out of favor and into eventual obsolescence, due to both it's perceived dangers and the high cost of maintenance of the wooden racing surfaces. Many of the board track bikes competing Friday night are taken out of museums displays for the spectators to witness a rare look at motorcycle racing history. The Board Track class is sponsored by the Lake Erie Chapter of the AMCA and Rocky's Antique Parts.

The pit gate opens at 10 am, Hot Laps at 2:15 pm, Heat races 4:30 pm and Opening Ceremony at 6:30 pm. The opening ceremony will include a Motor Maid parade lap, the National Anthem being sung by local rider #52g Paul Bailey and the Invocation by Bill Goebel, First Baptist Church of Jackson. Race track announcers are Donnie Bargmann who calls the action at the Lima GNC, Davenport and Knoxville CFT races, along with Bob Sigler, of Ohio Outlaw Motorsports.

Sponsors of the event include: Barnett, Oury Grip, PJ's Fabricating, Spectro Oils, and Wiseco.

Enjoy this local family friendly event at affordable prices. The SLT National takes place during the 30th annual AMCA Wauseon National meet. The three day meet opens each day at 8 am. It is a huge meet with over 500 vendors for bikes and parts over 35 years old and the theme of this year's meet is the Indian Motorcycle. General grandstand admission is $15 for adults, kids ages 6-12 $5 and 5 and under are Free.

Racing resumes at Mid-America this Saturday, July 14th during Dreyer Honda South Night. Dreyer Honda South is located at 595 E. Tracy Road, in Whiteland, IN. They carry top products from Honda, Honda Power Equipment, Fox Racing, Icon, MSR and so much more. Stop in and look for your next sport bike, cruiser, ATV, or even an outboard motor.

The featured class this week is Vet 30+ and we will be giving $100 to the race winner in addition to the regular trophy/buyback.

We also need to ask that only tow vehicles enter the pits. With the rider counts that we have been getting, we have run out of room for non-essential vehicles in the pits.

We do owe all of the riders and spectators an apology for the dust at the last race. We started watering at 9:30 that morning, and we were putting water down as fast as we could until the fair board unexpectedly had to borrow the water tank from 1:30-3:30. This allowed the water we had put down to evaporate and we were never able to get ahead of the watering the rest of the evening. We have a solution in place that will allow us to get more water down and also slow down the evaporation rate. We also ripped the entire surface up last Wednesday and graded it back to being pool table smooth that we are known for.

The green flag drops once again at Mid-America this Saturday, June 23rd for our sixth annual Marion County Fair race. If it was not for that first fair race in 2007 we would not exist today. The fair board has put a lot of effort into making the fair better, so why not make a day out of it and come out enjoy the fair, and then head to the grandstands for some great racing action. Admission to the fair is free to riders as long as you have your motorcycle/quad with you.

We also need to ask that only tow vehicles enter the pits. With the rider counts that we have been getting, we have run out of room for non-essential vehicles in the pits.

Our next race after the fair race is on July 14th, and is being sponsored by Dreyer Honda South. We are also going to add in $100 to the winner of the Vet 30+ class.

Opening Night Info

Mid-America realizes that the future of the sport rests with the youth riders and just like last year, we will pay a $100 bonus to the winning bike owner in the 85-200cc class

Also, new this year is the 250+ Amateur class which is open to riders that have never held an AMA Pro Racing License. This is open to any rider that is eligible to ride a 250 or larger machine. Meaning that in order to ride a 250 you must be 12 years or older, and 14 years or older to ride a 450.

Minor Waivers

Please remember that a parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver for any rider under the age of 18 in order to enter the pits. If a rider is going to be accompanied by anyone other than a parent/legal guardian they must have a notarized release signed by the child's parent/legal guardian. We can also email a copy of the release form if needed. Minor releases are not required for the grandstands.

Practice Nights

Practice nights at Mid-America will start on Wednesday, June 13th. There will also be open practice on Saturday, June 16th which will include complimentary burgers, hot dogs, and drinks.

Practices are generally held each Wednesday provided there is not a race on the following Saturday. Remember that minors must have a parent/legal guardian sign the waiver.

General

While it seemed like the day would never arrive, Mid-America Speedway is excited to be kicking off our 2012 season in less than 11 days. We consider the 2011 season the most successful thus far, but we are confident that when the final flag drops on October 27th that most people will agree that 2012 was our best season yet. We believe that we spend more time preparing Mid-America than many of the other tracks and feedback from our fans and riders re-enforce this as we consistently get positive comments from everybody that attends our races.

Saturday, April 28 Rescheduled for Saturday, May 5

The April 28th race hase been moved to Saturday, May 5th 2012. There will be an Open Pro/Expert class for this event with Mid-America adding $150 to win if 10 or more riders, $250 if 15 or more entries, and $450 if 20 or more Pro/Expert riders enter.

The staff of Mid-America Speedway (April 27, 2012)

Mid-America News

Saturday, April 14th Rescheduled for April 28th

We literally watched the radar every two hours throughout the night and up until 6:30am it looked like the rain was going to be done by 10:30. The weather then changed and it is going to rain up until at least 3pm today and maybe later. This would not give us time to dry the track out and get the race in. We have rescheduled today's event for April 28th.

We are still going to run the 450 Expert/Pro class on the 28th. The class is open to anybody that has held an Expert/Pro license within the last 10 years. The winner will get a bonus based on the number of riders. If there are 10 entries the bonus will be $150, 11-15 rider the bonus is $250, and $450 if 20 or more Experts/Pros show. This is on top of the normal payout which runs between 80 and 90%.

We are still going to run the 450 Class, and Open 251+ Class just like it has always been run. Also we have added the 250+ Amateur class open to riders that have never held an AMA Pro Racing License.

One of the most difficult things about promoting dirt track is when to make the decision to cancel due to rain. Unfortunately looking at the weather and the distances that many riders were travelling we have no choice but to reschedule today's event for April 28th . We are excited about getting to race this early in the year and if this event is successful we are going to look at making this an annual tradition.

This race we are also pleased to announce that Byrnes Grilled Pizza is going to be serving up their pizzas. Please visit their website at http://www.byrnespizza.com/. They will be serving from 3:30pm to 9pm.

Sincerely,
The staff of Mid-America Speedway (April 14, 2012)

Mid-America News

Saturday, April 14th Race Update
The crew at Mid-America has been working on the track and the grounds for the past week and a half and we are confident that you are going to be impressed. Our previous email we stated that we added a 450 Expert/Pro Class open to riders that currently held an AMA Pro License for the April 14th event only. We are modifying that a little in that we are going to allow riders that have held an Expert or Pro license within the last ten years. As of this email we have eight Experts and seven Pros signed up. We stated that Mid-America would bonus the winner $250 if 11-15 riders showed up, and $450 if 20 or more Experts/Pros show. This is on top of the normal payout which runs between 80 and 90%.

We are still going to run the 450 Class, and Open 251+ Class just like it has always been run. Also we have added the 250+ Amateur class open to riders that have never held an AMA Pro Racing License.

There has been some concern that the night may be longer with the added class, so we are going to change the speedway class so that there are five riders in a heat instead of four. This will save two or three heats over the evening which will offset the added classes.

Ride Academy at Mid-America
Mike Hacker's Ride Academyis looking to put on one of their schools at Mid-America on May 5/6th, with May 12/13th being a rain date if needed. Please provide feedback if you would be interested in attending.

Mid-America (April 11, 2012)

Mid-America News

Spring race added for Saturday, April 14th
We are going to add an event on Saturday, April 14th. The weather in central Indiana has seen record temperatures this month, and we have gotten a ton of calls about starting the season early. If this event proves successful we may look at making this an annual event. We will also be adding an Open Expert/Pro 450 class for this day only. The class will only be open to Pro and Expert licensed riders. Don't have a Pro/Expert card? No problem we will still be running our 450 class, and the Open 251cc+ class plus all of our regular money and trophy classes. Mid-America will pay the normal payout percentage in all of the money classes. If there are 10 or more entries in the Open Expert/Pro 450 Class an additional $150 will go to the winner. 15 or more riders and the winner gets an extra $250, and if there are 20 or more experts the winner will get a $450 bonus. Because this race has been added with somewhat of a short notice this will not be part of our 2012 points series. Rider's meeting will be at 4:00, practice at 4:30, and heats will start at 7:00.

Changes for 2012
New class added
We realize that there are a lot of riders making the move to 250's and there are also riders that do not want to ride the 450 money classes, so there will be a new class added for 2012. The class is called 250cc+ Amateur. The rules are pretty simple, you must be 12+ to ride a 250, and 14+ to ride a 450, and most importantly you cannot of ever held a Pro or Expert license. This is a trophy class but it should give many riders an opportunity to get some experiece without having to jump right into the 250 or 450 money classes. A rider can ride this class and the 250/450 money class, but if they win a main event in any of the big bike money classes they are no longer eligible for the 250cc+ Amateur class. Remember that the spirit of this class it to get experience on a 250/450, and "cherry picking" will be strongly discouraged.

Change to points series
We are going to combine our points series with the events that the Midwest Motorcycle Club is putting on in Columbus, IN. A rider must ride at least 50% of all of the events actually run in 2012 to be eligible for a year end award. The 50% rule can be combined any way a rider sees fit, so if there are 16 events run between the two tracks, a rider has to enter any eight events. The April 14th event will not be a part of the 2012 points series.

Mid-America (March 26, 2012)
