Mid America News

If you were not at Mid-America Saturday night, you missed one of the best tracks that we have ever had. The weather was cooler than previous races this season, and the midweek rains offered just enough moisture to allow plenty of multi-line passing.
The track crew dug in and with 108 riders we finished just after 9:30.

We will be racing again this Saturday, October 18th, and then our Halloween race is October 25th. The Halloween race is typically our second largest event of the year behind the MotoGP weekend, and we are changing things up a bit as the Open Bike Class will run a 25 lap main event, and pay a minimum of $400 to win. Riders are encouraged to dress up in costume as starting positions in heat races will be based on your costume. (Semi's and Mains will still be dictated by how a rider qualifies for the main event.)

Awards Banquet
This year's awards banquet will be held Saturday, November 8th from 5pm-8pm at Sunset Bowl which is located at 10809 East US Highway 136 in Clermont, IN, which is just west of US 136/Crawfordsville Road and Raceway road. Click here for link to map. The banquet includes food, soft drinks and bowling for all attendees. We have been doing 50/50 raffles at the last few races, and the proceeds from the raffles are going to allow the cost of the banquet to remain free for all attendees. RSVP's are required either via email to info@midamspeedway.com, or text to (317) 871-4392. Please be sure to include your name, and the number of attendees in the RSVP. We do ask that RSVP's are limited to four attendees per rider, including the rider.

There will also be an open practice the day of the banquet from 11-3. Anybody that has RSVP'd for the banquet will get a complimentary pass for practice.

Regarding the points, we have not been able to get results for all of the events that Midwest held at Mid-America. With that said, the rule requiring a rider to attend 51% of the events will be dropped for the 2014 season.

72 Camps
72 CAMPS, LLC [Owned and operated by local award winning educator and amateur flat tracker, Kevin Leineweber.] is hosting a 2 day Basics of Dirt Track Riding Camp on October 16th and 17th (8am-4pm) in the covered horse arena at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville, Indiana. Mid America News

There are only a few races left in the 2014 season, and while the other tracks are winding down their seasons, there are four races left at Mid-America. (See schedule to right) Typically the September and October events provide fairly mild weather, and a great racing surface. The track was graded Sunday, and it should be pool table smooth for the rest of the season. Our next event will be on September 27th, October 4th, October 18th. We have purchased larger first place trophies for the 50cc shaft, and 50cc chain classes for the October 4th event. Our quickly becoming a tradition "6th Annual Halloween Race" is on October 25th. The Halloween race is typically one of our largest events of the year. We try to ask a few current national number/celebrity riders to act as judges, and they assign starting positions for heats, based on the quality of a rider's costume. (Semi and Main event starting positions are still based on heat results.

Mid America News

The 2014 season has been plagued by the threat of rain for most of the events that have been ran this year. Last week was no exception, as there was a light sprinkle up until early in the afternoon. The riders that did attend were treated to one of the best tracks that we have ever had. The cooler weather helps, but we got just enough rain to make for a near perfect track. While most tracks have nearly completed their 2014 season, there are still five races left on the Mid-America schedule. The green flag flies once again this Saturday and this week Gary Terry from Terry Cycle is adding $100 to win the Super Senior/50+. Class. We will be racing again on September 27th, October 4th, October 18th, and then our quickly becoming a traditional "6th Annual Halloween Race" is on October 25th. Just like last year, this will be Round 10 of the AMA Vintage Dirt Track Series. Mid America News

The following press release written by Mike "Stu" Stuhler was sent out on June 30th, but we wanted to make sure that all of the fans of Mid-America Speedway were given to chance to read it.

Mid-America Speedway in Indianapolis, one of the finest racing facilities in the Midwest, announced today that track operations would return to the original management team effective immediately. Track founder and president, Jim Terchila made the announcement early on Saturday, June 28.

After founding the facility some seven years ago, Terchila had turned over operations to another local club in lieu of job and family obligations that were taking their toll in being able to maintain the track's operations at the level with which he had originally started the outing over half a decade ago. "Unfortunately, due to some difficulties with the three races with which they had been in charge here at the Marion County Fairgrounds, it just didn't work out," stated Terchila. "As of today and for the rest of the season, our original management team will be back in charge of race operations, which will commence with our next race on Saturday, July 12.

"We are obviously looking ahead to the rest of the season, especially with the fast-approaching premier event on our schedule, The Night After the Indy Mile race, which this year will be held on Saturday, August 9," continued the president of track operations, "and this year's event will again see the two premier classes in the Open Pro and Bultaco Astro Cup events. Jared Mees will again return to defend his unbeaten record here at Mid-America and Dave 'Bones' Aldana, last year's winner Steve Morehead and a host of other former AMA Grand National Championship greats will also be on hand again for some of the racing we have lined up.

"All of our previous personnel will also be returning to action, our pit steward, starter, flaggers and referee, as well as long time announcer Bret Cheek, who is known for his intense level of excitement and fiery enthusiasm which bestows the overall sentiments which we have tried to bring to the table in all of our years of operating here at the fairgrounds." Terchila also wanted everyone to know that his wife, Holly, whom everyone has known to become the welcoming hostess in the sign-up area, will also be returning to greet all of the riders and team members as they arrive for each outing.

You can expect the same level of great racing that has been seen for years at Mid-America Speedway going forward, and you can keep up with their full compliment of events by visiting their website at www.midamspeedway.com. Mid-America would also like to take the time to thank all of the racers, teams, personnel and fans who have been a part of the track's success over the years and for making it the great facility that it has become during all of the years it has been in operation.

Mid America News

It is hard to believe that the 2014 season at Mid-America kicks off one week from today. Many of us spent the off season riding on ice, but it is time to put the ice tires away for the season and get back on the dirt! We have spent several days during the past few weeks preparing the track, and it may be in the best condition for an opening event that it ever has been. The warm temperatures this week will make the track even better! Our schedule has been out for a little over four months, and while it is very similar to last year's schedule the Night After the Indy Mile and the Astro Cup is getting more attention than ever. Currently there are over 30 Astro's entered and we have commitments from several other top riders that will be announced in the near future. Remember that this years event is on Saturday, August 9th, as the Mile is moving to Friday, August 8th. This will also be round 10 of the AMA Vintage National Dirt Track Series, and just like last year it will feature the Pro 450 Class along with some limited modern bike classes. The full schedule is posted to the right.

Free Grandstand Admission on April 19th
How many riders have friends, family, and co-workers that have never attended a race. Now they have no excuse for not attending opening night as we are offering free grandstand admission for the April 19th event! This is the perfect opportunity to get that person that always says that they want to attend a race, but never seems to actually make it to an event. If the April 19th event is postponed to April 26th, the offer will still apply.

Mid America News

Mid-America is looking forward to our 7th Season in 2014. Our 2014 Schedule was released on December 8th which is the soonest that we have ever been able to get our schedule out. The schedule is very similar to last year, although the biggest news is that our Night Before the Indy Mile is now the Night After the Indy Mile as the Mile is moving to Friday, August 8th. This will also be round 10 of the AMA Vintage National Dirt Track Series, and just like last year it will feature the Pro 450 Class, and the Bultaco Astro Cup along with some limited modern bike classes. The full schedule is posted to the right. Please note that the Columbus race dates which are promoted by the Midwest Motorcycle Club are tentative dates as the fair board in Columbus has a meeting in late January/early February to decide who gets which dates. However they are the same weekends that Columbus ran in 2013.

Considering the current weather conditions in central Indiana, it is hard to believe that are our first event is a little over three months away, but rest assured that once the weather breaks we will be prepping the track in order to give the riders and spectators the best possible track possible. Note that riders meeting will be at 4:30, and practice is at 5:00pm for the April event.

Indoor Ice Racing
While it may be too cold to ride outdoors right now, the folks at Extreme International Ice Racing (www.xiir.org) asked us to remind everybody that they have indoor events scheduled for St. Louis, MO on Jan. 25th, Everett, WA on Feb. 7th, and Danville, IL on February 21st. More events will be added in the near future. The Extreme International Ice Racing series is a professional series attracting crowds between 3,000 and 10,00 people depending on the size of the arena. Traditionally they have run speedway bikes and quads, but two years ago 450's and pit bikes were added, and they have turned out to be a huge hit. The 450 class pays $500 to win, making it one of the better paying indoor events out there. Interested riders must contact Anthony Barlow at 636.795.4773 to reserve a spot in the lineup so that their name can be added to the program.
