Champion Speedway Fall Brawl
Fall Brawl at Champion Speedway is moved to next SUNDAY the 29th! I am told it has been raining all day in Owego.
That, along with several others factors, makes it seem like we will be best off doing it next Sunday instead.
Gates will open at 10am, Speedway will be at Noon and Quads will start at approx 2:30ish. See you all then!

LEGENDS NIGHT - FAST FRIDAYS - JUNE 9, 2023
From Paul Petrali, grandnephew of Joe Petrali. "I would like to let you know, that we will be representing the great Joe Petrali at the Fast Fridays "Legend" night on June 9th. We will have Joe's AMA Champion Medals and other items of Joe's on display."
AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, "Joe Petrali, or Smokey Joe, as his friends liked to call him, was arguably the country’s finest racer from the mid-1920s to the mid-30s, and perhaps one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time. Petrali was one of the last great Class A racing stars who competed in board track racing, dirt track, speed records and hill climbs. Petrali won an amazing 49 AMA national championship races, a mark that would not be surpassed for 55 years, until 1992, when Scott Parker won his 50th AMA national."
He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1992. In 1998, he was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, and in 2006 he was inducted into the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

AMA National Qualifier
A while ago (see further below), I made a post regarding staging a qualifier for the AMA National Championship series. It is some thing that I one hundred percent believe in and that there is at least the opportunity for every bona fide division one rider to be able to qualify.
I’ve staged several of these over the years unfortunately, this time around I cannot make it work due to the lack of available Saturday nights on the schedule ahead of round 1 on June 24, 2023.
There is another promotion who is rapidly trying to see if they can make this work, and hopefully they can.
But there are lots of logistics to put together for anyone wanting to stage such a race. In the event that doesn’t work out, I have offered doing a short run off ahead of round one for the last couple of spots.
Sorry I couldn’t make it work this time, but the circumstances of some of our fellow promotions, which I 100% support and understand plus availability of my venues have made things a little scarce with dates.

Top 8 riders from 2022 are automatically seeded into 2023 series. Remaining 6 spots, there are still 2 wildcard spots for each specific round.

It is definitely an ideal to stage a qualifying event for the remaining spots or to have some written on track qualification criteria ahead of the spring and summer season starting.

KCRP RACE POSTPONED MARCH 11
Having reviewed current and projected rainfall, we have made the very reluctance decision to postpone tomorrow’s event.
The next race will be April 1 and we can credit any prepaid entries to this event or issue refunds.
We are also looking at a make up date when the weather is better.
Steve Evans <dreamteamspeedway@sbcglobal.net> March 10, 2023
The Dirt Track at KCRP March 11 race update.
As you most likely have seen, there is rain forecast ahead of this weekend’s event. If you look a little bit deeper into the forecast, you’ll see that the rain is coming Friday and is forecast end before the sun comes up on Saturday. the track is right between Bakersfield and Taft and the forecast difference between the two. Half an inch of rain in Bakersfield less than a quarter in Taft. The truth is at this point we most likely wouldn’t know until first thing Saturday morning if we can go racing. And part of the picture is how many of you would actually would come racing.
Perris already canceled their flat track event for this weekend. We are reviewing the situation literally every couple of hours and one thing that would help matters for us would be a count of how many people are planning to attend. Anyone who signs up can get an immediate refund or credit to the next event on April 1 in the event of cancellation. If you could please either sign up, or let us know below your intentions to race that will help in the decision process.

KCRP May Speedway date:
The Speedway event we had plans for May 13 will not be occurring. This is because Costa Mesa Speedway also has an event scheduled for that night. Since the beginning of my race promotion efforts in 2006 we have had a fantastic relationship with the Oxley family and we always have had the viewpoint that their schedule takes seniority to any other venue in California when it comes to Saturday races.
Their pattern of dates has changed somewhat in 2023 and we are more than happy to oblige accordingly.
The rest of our dates remain unchanged with the next Speedway and Flat Track event scheduled for March 11.
We wish Costa Mesa Speedway a fantastic 53rd season and look forward to more coordination with them in the future.

Perris Pairs Championship
After the success of the Team USA World Cup squad racing against the World yeah Stars, American fans have an encore coming up at Perris Raceway on Saturday, 18th of February.
Current world number six and two time Grand Prix winner Dan Bewley of Great Britain is entered in the division one program. Bewley by that time would have spent over a month in America in training for his 2023 Grand Prix and league campaigns in Poland, Sweden and Britain.
Team USA boss and Perris promoter Steve Evans enthused, “I knew Dan was staying in town a little while, and right after the success of the Bakersfield race he was keen to do more. So we are bringing him out to Perris. It is one more chance for American fans to see a rider hailed as a future world champion, and perhaps a contender this year. it is also a chance for American Speedway riders to race against one of the very best He’s been a pleasure to deal with, and we are very excited to bring him out again“
The racing action starts at 5 PM with gates open at 2 PM.
TEAM USA HAILS PROGRESS AFTER BAKERSFIELD INSTANT CLASSIC
Team USA management was thrilled with Inaugural USA V World Test Match at Kern County Raceway last week and is already looking forward to next time.
“The event was a huge amount of work and financial investment, but it came out very well,” said team boss Steve Evans. “We have wanted to have our World Cup squad race at home for some time and it is fair to say that not being the 2023 World Cup was the catalyst to doing this race at this time.”
The USA were narrow winners in a thrilling team event, whilst the World Stars dominated the second half individual with 2021 British Champ Adam Ellis coming out on top.
“The team rode very well and as a solid unit. Hats of to Laurence Rogers, who flew in from the UK for the event and fellow Brit Peter Davenport for their team management. The riders were fired up and it is fair to say that wearing the Stars and Stripes on your chest gives you something extra and they needed that. We were very solid throughout the line up with Luke and Gino jointly top scoring, Max winning the crucial final heat and Billy J in absolute beast mode in the deep dirt. Broc and Dillon rode better than their points haul whilst young Alex Martin, who will be our SGP2 rider in ’23, did all expected and more in his USA debut. I got a fair amount of stick in some quarters for choosing Alex over other more experienced and established riders and I understand that. But Alex is going to Europe again this Spring for SGP2 and we are looking at our international team for the next four years and Alex has the potential to be a massive contributor within that window.”
“The world riders were something else. Each one of them a true professional and a pleasure to deal with, on and off the track. For them it was a fun trip, a bit of warm weather, sightseeing and a chance to shake off some cobwebs before the serious business begins next month. I think we gave them a positive experience and I am sure most will want to do this again.”
The event, as well as attracting a big crowd at the track, also had a very impressive TV audience with the British Speedway Network broadcasting live coverage. “It was great to partner with BSN, they truly are a fantastic group of people. The production was first class. We were also very glad that the majority of the UK & European audience loved the event and gave excellent feedback. We certainly know from our end in America we can do better next time most notably with the use of helmet colors. They don’t get used in America, but I think we either need to use them next time or have easier ways for the fans at home to identify the riders and the teams. Our American fans know the home riders by their distinctive race suits but as this is an international event, we need to cater for those fans watching from overseas too.”
The success of the event means that organizers already have an eye to 2024 and not just staging the event as is but moving things forward and developing the concept. “It was great to showcase American Speedway live to the world. It’s been a hidden gem for some time but with the quality of riders and racing on show, this was the very best. We had fans in the USA commenting this was the best race they had ever seen and by some who have been around since the 70s. Moving forward, this has a lot of potential and events like this can only make American Speedway grow and grow faster. We will definitely do this event again and perhaps expand it. Why not run a test match series over 2-3 weekends? We would always invite other promotions to be a part of something like this though we can also grow it within our own venues and potential venues if others don’t want to partner. And for the future whilst we will most likely continue the theme of a World Stars team in opposition, there is also the possibility to race against a 7 man team from another country. That direction will get explored for sure. The sky is the limit really.”
“The USA test matches isn’t the only thing we are doing to develop our National Team. We had a fantastic junior speedway academy at Kern County Raceway the week before. We took a dozen kids, most of them flat trackers, and had three bikes on hand courtesy of Nick Hohlbein racing for them to test. Gino and Max gave fantastic tuition. By the end of the session several of these kids were race ready and are hopefully pressuring mom and dad to buy them a junior bike. This is more of a long range and not immediate thing that will impact SWC or SoN, but a massive base of junior riders would ultimately create what we need; enough talent when they are older to make an impact worldwide and a growing domestic rider base.
Concluding, Evans said, “The most important thing for us is to strengthen the National team and improve / expand our core squad of the most likely riders that will be involved in World Cup and Speedway of Nations events. The fact we had to leave out worthy riders is a good problem to have but you need 7 for the team, not 10. Though we can celebrate a win and a fantastic homecoming, the truth of the matter is that we have much work to do and much more progress to make if we are going to make world championship finals and contest for medals. These are not gimmick or exhibition events but a very serious investment into challenging for honors on a consistent and continual basis in the years ahead.

RAIN CANCELLATION KCRP 14 JANUARY
With a huge amount of rainfall over the last week, and an 85% chance of rain on Saturday we are left with no other choice than to cancel Saturday’s event. The track is so wet right now we cannot get a prep vehicle onto it and whilst there are three days remaining the Saturday weather forecast means the sensible thing to do is to give everyone early notice. The AMA Speedway Pairs National Championship will be staged later this year.
Those who have prepaid entry fees can get them refunded or can use them as credit towards upcoming practice and races.
We will have open Practice, Speedway Academy and Flat Track awards Sunday, January 29
and Speedway USA versus the World on February 4.
The full 2023 schedule for the venue should be released in the next few days.

USA WORLD CUP TEAM TO RACE IN THE STATES
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 34 YEARS ON FEBRUARY 4TH 2023 AT KERN COUNTY RACEWAY
Bakersfield, CA (December 28th, 2022) - The USA World Cup Speedway Motorcycle Racing Team is coming home to race for the first time in over 34 years with an appearance on February 4th at ‘The Dirt Track’ at Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield. They will race against a World Stars team, featuring some of the best riders from the international leagues of Europe.
The event is the brainchild of Team USA Speedway Manager Steve Evans, and Kern County Raceway’s General Manager Larry Collins. The USA World Championship National team last raced on home dirt in 1988, when the World Team Cup Final was staged at the iconic Long Beach Veterans Stadium. On that day, the USA came second out of the four finalists with Team Denmark as the winners.
The event at Kern County Raceway will be in two parts. First, the team competition, expected to be over 14 heats, followed by a full individual competition to round out the event.
Currently teams are being finalized with riders representing at least six different countries and three continents for a powerhouse overseas World Team. It includes one multi–Grand Prix winning rider who has already agreed to spearhead the challengers.
The Team USA line up is expected to be built around riders who are true contenders for its 2024 Speedway of Nations World Championship team and will be led by 2022 North American Champion Luke Becker.
“Since day 1 at Kern County Raceway, we have wanted to stage groundbreaking events with the aim of taking American Speedway to the next level and this event checks all those boxes,” stated Team USA boss and KCRP Speedway Director Evans. “The USA team has been the pride of the sport and its fan base since it was brought back to the forefront of the annual World Cup in 2012. We have wanted to bring the team to race at home for a long time and here they are. It’s fair to say this is very ambitious on our part, but with Team USA not in international overseas competition until 2024 we expect our fans and sponsors to get behind this like never before.”
“I’ve been part of motorsports industry my entire life,” stated Kern County Raceway’s Larry Collins. “When you bring the best riders in the world together for a professional Speedway event, it’s one of the greatest motorsports events you’ll ever witness.”
More details about the event will be released in due course including the World Team riders. The start time of the event will also be finalized over the next week.
