From Gary Roberts
Greg Hancock came over to show everyone how a world class rider can step
away from quarter mile tracks and come back to an eighth mile track,
that he has not seen for 10 months and beat the locals who practice here
every week. Those are the skills that made him a world champion. But
Greg took a while to settle down to the Auburn track. In his first
handicap race, things looked incredibly shaky. He later admitted to
struggling for a couple of laps, from a 50 yard handicap, through more
dirt on the Auburn track than he has seen all season on the British
league! But in the scratch side of the program, Greg looked right at
home winning first his heat, then his semi final, then the main.

6. Robert Curry
A tough race for Hancock. Dukie rode well from the 30 yard line and
there was no catching him. Greg started out with Janniro and Venegas on
the 50 yard line and found them to be heavy duty competition. Despite a
perfect track, it was only in the last lap when Greg finally shook off
Janniro then got past Ferris on the last corner.

I expected the junior division 1 this year to be a bit diluted, as the
season went on. First Jon Curry left, then Eric Carrillo and Chris Kerr.
Well there is good news from both directions. Jon, Eric and Chris are
doing fine in Division 2, on 500cc machines, I would expect at least two
of them to be in first division before the end of the season. Meanwhile
down in the Junior Division 1 there have been some great races. Friday
night was no exception. All four riders put on a great race, with Bryan
Yarrow finally battling through for the checkered flag. It was better
than many first division mains. Full credit to all four junior riders.
America has some great talent coming out of our Junior Speedway program.
