Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell won the Scratch Main and Scott Brant took home top honors in the Handicap Main and the Denim Doctor Challenge at Costa Mesa last Saturday night.
McConnell drew the pole for the Scratch Main after having to qualify via the Last Chance. The pole proved beneficial after some bunching in turn one pushed the field toward the outside. McConnell rode a tight line and took control of the lead as the field rounded turn two. Josh Larsen came out of the turn one mayhem in second and chased down McConnell. Larsen kept constant pressure on the leader, but McConnell never made a mistake and went on to the victory. "Flyin'" Mike Faria finished third, Brant was fourth, and Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz was fifth.
Danny Perkins started at the front of the field in the Handicap Main and held the lead for two laps before Robbie Sauer and Eddie Castro came together and brought out a red flag. A restart was ordered with two laps completed and six remaining. Perkins held the lead until Brant powered by on the inside. Brant never looked back from there and was first to the checkered flag. McConnell finished second, Larsen was third, Faria was fourth, and Kitt Nay finished fifth.
David Lynch continued his domination of the Support Division by winning the main event in convincing fashion. Lynch sampled some of the dirt as he, John Stunkard, and Japanese rider Hideaki Ota went down in turn one. Lynch jumped into the lead from gate four on the restart and cruised to the victory. Rudy Laurer was second, Ota finished third, Stunkard was fourth, and Scott Tidwell was fifth.
Mark Baldwin piloted his two-valve Jawa to the victory in the Support B Main Event. Baldwin started in the front of the field, took the lead right away, and ran away with the win. Steve Murray finished second, Michael Novratil was third, Kim Stevens finished fourth, Eloy Medellin was fifth, and Northern California's Kevin Fereira was sixth.
Krystal Cramer brought the crowd to its feet with a wire-to-wire win in the Junior Main Event. Cramer was followed by Skyler Greyson in second place, Miles Calvin finished third, Dario Galvin was fourth, Ricky Wells was fifth, and Jason Ramirez finished sixth.
