Fast Fridays Speedway
Gold Country Fairgrounds Auburn, CA
Challenge #1
Fast Fridays
May 17, 2002
From Gary Roberts
With the weather significantly warmer than last week's
opening night, Fast Fridays second week of the season got underway. The track looked wet
and slushy to start with, but quickly turned into a great racing surface, which remained
good all evening. A good sized crowd had an enjoyable evening.
Scratch Main
1 Scott Brant
2 Bart Bast
3 Chad Felicio
4 Bobby Hedden
First out of the gate, Southern California visitor, Scott Brant established a 2 bike lead
on the first lap, which he maintained for the entire race. The battle for second had Bobby
Hedden on the outside of Bart Bast side by side and lasted until Hedden went down on turn
one of the second lap. That remained the order for the rest of the race.
Scratch Consi
1 Bryan Yarrow
2 Tommy Hedden
3 Robert Curry
4 Alan Christian
Handicap Main
1 Scott Brant
2 Mike Faria
3 Robert Curry
4 Bobby Hedden
5 JJ Martynse
6 Ivan Sevart
Double main event winner Scott Brant found his way past Robert Curry, then JJ Martynse,
and when his chain came off Ivan Sevart. Not even Faria could catch him.
Handicap Consi
1 Bryan Yarrow
2 Chris Kerr
3 Chad Felicio
4 Bart Bast
5 Alan Christian

Last week's handicap main event winner, Bryan Yarrow missed the main this week, but
completed a double consi win.
Division 2 Main
1 Greg Hooten Jnr.
2 Devon Defreece
3 David Fonts
4 Bill Warnock
5 Rachalle Kerr
6 Ron Woodsford
Greg Hooten showed his years of experience gained in the Junior Speedway program by
stealing the Division 2 main from race long leader Devon Defreece on the last corner. David
Fonts and Bill Warnock had a good battle for third.
Division 2 Consi
1 Derek Silva

5 Deano Blankenbiller
6 Rick Gutzke
7 Les Veale

Richard Christian, son of Alan Christian, was in a class of his own. Better style, faster,
but it looks like he is still gaining experience in traffic. I see him following Billy
Hiles as the next Division 3 to Division 1 in a year rider.

Currently Northern California Speedway addicts have only Friday nights to feed our
addiction, with still no prospects for anything on Saturdays. Gary Roberts - gary_rob@ix.netcom.com
