Laidlaw's Harley Night
August 16, 2006 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans
Bryan Yarrow won his second Industry Hills main event of the season in front of a large crowd on Laidlaw's Harley Night at The Grand.
Yarrow, in gate three, and Gary Hicks, starting on the outside, went through turns one and two side-by-side. Yarrow found more traction in turn two and surged ahead on the back straight. The former Youth National Champion then slammed the door on Hicks as they entered turn three and secured the inside line. Yarrow left little doubt over the outcome as he pulled away for the win. Eddie Castro passed Hicks for second and Shawn McConnell was fourth.
Yarrow's evening began inauspiciously when he fell in the first heat and was penalized. Charlie Venegas easily won the restart ahead of Neil Facchini and Yarrow. McConnell beat Nate Perkins for his first win. Tommy Hedden beat Dario Galvin in the next race. Castro beat Brad Sauer for his initial victory. Buck Blair beat Dale Facchini in the last race of round one.
Round two began with a Nate Perkins victory. Venegas made it two in a row by beating Blair. Yarrow beat McConnell for his first win. Hicks beat Shaun Harmatiuk in the next race. Castro closed out the second round with his second straight win.
Hicks held off Yarrow and Perkins to win the first race of the final round. Dale Facchini beat Castro who had been penalized for causing a restart. Hedden beat Venegas for his second win. Neil Facchini beat Greg Ayers and to a spot in the semis. Harmatiuk beat McConnell in the final heat.
A five-rider runoff was required to fill the final three spots in the semis. Hicks scored the victory ahead of Perkins. Yarrow made a mad dash around the outside on the final lap to edge Blair at the line for the pivotal third place finish while Harmatiuk finished fifth.
Hicks scored his fourth straight win ahead of Castro in the first semi with both transferring to the main. Venegas brought out the red flag with a fall in the second semi and was penalized. Yarrow won the restart ahead of McConnell as both riders booked their spots in the main. Hedden was victorious in the Consolation.
Travis Henderson won the Second Division Main for the first time after taking the lead with a pass on the third lap. Ryan Tovatt finished second, Kim Stevens was third, and Bill Green finished fourth.
Jamie Myers led all four laps to capture the Third Division Main Event for the second time. Tony Bracy finished second, Allen Doss was third, and Justin Hassan finished fourth.
Jason Ramirez prepared for next week's Youth National with a win over Joey Holt in the Youth First Division Main. Russell Green won the Youth Second Division Main with Phillip Harmatiuk coming in second, Rocco Scopellite finishing third, and Dylan Black credited with fourth.
The result of Pee Wee Main was so close that the referee ordered a match race between the top two finishers to determine the winner. Braydan Galvin beat Samuel Ramirez in the runoff, Braden Sauer was third, Elijah Hicks was fourth, and Alexis Hicks was fifth.
The sidecars made their second official appearance and it was Joe Jones and Brandi McElroy taking the victory. Dan Jones and Chris Jones, making their return as a team, finished second.
