Charlie "The Edge" Venegas took home his fourth Scratch Main Event of the year and Neil Facchini was victorious in the Handicap Main at Industry Speedway.
Venegas, the defending Industry Track Champion, started in gate two and was first off the starting line. He immediately clamped down on the pole in front of Gary Hicks. Venegas led down the backstraight and Jimmy Fishback was able to get past Hicks and slot in behind the leader. Venegas stretched his lead while Fishback had his hands full holding off Hicks. Venegas was first to the checkered flag and Fishback held off Hicks for second with Shaun Harmatiuk finishing in fourth.
Billy Lyons started at the front of the second Handicap Main held at Industry Speedway this season. Lyons impressively won his semi, but lost an engine on the cooldown lap and borrowed Robbie Sauer's machine for the main. Lyons led until turn three when Neil Facchini, who had already passed Mike Bloom on the backstraight, used the outside to charge around Lyons for the lead. Facchini held a comfortable lead before Harmatiuk took over second place. Harmatiuk slowly closed on Facchini in a battle reminiscent of the Costa Mesa Handicap Main eleven days earlier. Facchini never flinched and was first across the line. Harmatiuk was second, Buck Blair finished third, Fishback was fourth, Bloom finished fifth, and Lyons was sixth.
Veteran rider Rudy Laurer got the best start in the Second Division Main, but was chased by Troy McConnell, winner of the previous week's main event. McConnell remained on Laurer's back fender before making a mistake on the third lap and allowing Bryan Buffington to get by. Laurer cruised the final lap to victory, Buffington was second, McConnell finished third, and Vince Giamformaggio was fourth.
Jim Painter led from start to finish for to win the Third Division Main Event for the second time this year. Toni Hicks was second, Steve Leffler finished third, and Yoshi Sato was fourth.
Brad Pappalardo got the best start in the Youth First Division Main Event, but Joey Holt used the outside to take the lead on the back straight. Holt ran away with the win from there, Russell Green finished second, and Pappalardo was third.
Braydan Galvin and Richard Crocker have had some entertaining battles the past several weeks. After another great race it was Galvin who was the victor in the Youth Second Division Main. Crocker had to settle for second and Rocco Scopellite was unable to start due to an injury but was credited with third.
Next week will be the final Wednesday event at Industry before shifting to three Saturday events during the month of July. There will be an event on Saturday, July 7, followed by the "Russell Family Speedway Classic" on July 14, and the California State Championship on July 28. Wednesday night racing will return on August 1.
