July 7, 2007 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans
Charlie "The Edge" Venegas won all five of his races and took home top honors for the third consecutive week at Industry Speedway.
Venegas lined up in the inside gate and when the tapes went up he launched off the line first and led into turn one. Mike Faria, Scott Brant, and Jimmy Fishback were engaged in a three-wide battle for second with Faria emerging with control of the position on the back straight. Faria turned his attention to Venegas, but the defending Industry Track Champion left no doubt about the outcome. Venegas was first to the checkered flag, Faria was second, Brant finished third, and Fishback was fourth.
Buck Blair kicked off the heats with a win over Ricky Wells and Shawn McConnell. Bobby Krips defeated J.T. Mabry in the next heat. Venegas held off Brant for his first win. Fishback scored an impressive win over Faria. Ryan Fisher, in his first domestic appearance of 2007, beat Neil Facchini and Eddie Castro to end round one.
Round two began with Tim Gomez leading until the final corner when he found too much grip, went vertical, dismounted and slid into the fence while his bike collected Dale Facchini. Facchini was awarded the win. Fisher won his second straight race ahead of McConnell. Brant used the outside in turn one to get around Blair for his first win. Faria scored his first win in race 24. The second round concluded with Venegas beating Castro and Fishback for his second win.
Dale Facchini led the first race of the final round before Wells used the outside to pass him for the lead and win. Venegas made it three in a row by beating McConnell. Neil Facchini held off Blair to win race 30. Brant defeated Fisher for his second consecutive win. Faria ended the heats with a win over Castro and Schwartz. McConnell and Fishback finished one-two in a five-rider runoff to take final two spots in the semis.
Faria led the first semi for start to finish, but Brant charged from the back by using the cushion and overtook Wells for second on the third lap and held on to earn the transfer to the main. The second semi ended in turn one. Blair was penalized, but couldn't fix his disconnected headpipe and received two-minute exclusion from the restart. Venegas and Fishback were awarded first and second after Fisher found too much traction in turn four and fell off. Blair cruised to victory in the Consolation.
In the Last of the Mohicans Challenge, Fisher and Faria were the first two eliminated leaving Castro and Blair to do battle. The riders gated evenly, but it was Blair gaving Castro a taste of his own medicine by using the outside line to take the lead. Castro tried to fight through on the inside, but Blair kept him at bay for the win.
Mike "Spiderman" Bloom dominated his competition all night and won the Second Division Main Event. John Stunkard was second, Rick Valdez finished third, and Vince Giamformaggio was fourth.
Steve Leffler led the Third Division Main Event until the final corner when Danny Baker made a desperate move and split Leffler and Aimiris Santana to steal the win at the line. Leffler had to settle for second, Santana was third, Toni Hicks finished fourth, Daniel Faria was fifth, and Lance Remington finished sixth.
Russell Green got the best start and led all the way to the finish in the Youth First Division Main. Jason Ramirez was second and Brad Pappalardo finished third.
Youth Second and Third Divisions were combined on the track, but scored as separate divisions. The Second Division riders started in front of the Third Division riders for safety purposes. Richard Crocker was victorious in the Youth Second Division Main with Brayden Galvin finishing second, Rocco Scopellite was third, and Chad Hoyt was fourth. Samuel Ramirez won the Youth Third Division Main, Eloy Medellin III was second, and Elijah Harrison-Hicks finished third.
Bryson Galvin won the Pee Wee Main Event, Lexie Santana finished second, Chandler Larocque was third, Nathan Remington finished fourth, and Erika Lyons was fifth.
A group of pee wee girls circled the track during the National Anthem with American flags and also participated in a Powderpuff Exhibition. Lexie Santana won the exhibition, Emalee Pappalardo was second, Erika Lyons finished third, Alexis Harrison-Hicks was fourth, and Kylee Evans finished fifth.
This Saturday's event at Industry Speedway is the Russell Family Summer Slam. The Russell Family has been long-time supporters and sponsors of speedway riders and facilities for many years. They are putting an extra $2000 into the purse for Saturday's event. The added incentive will certainly increase the intensity and make the already fantastic racing even better.
