Fast Fridays - AUBURN, CALIFORNIA, August 28, 2009
It was a great night of racing for Red Line Oil sponsored riders as Kelly Kerrigan and Billy Janniro sweep the main events with wins Friday night at Fast Friday Motorcycle Speedway.
Billy Janniro, continued on his scratch main event winning streak, running away with his 11th scratch main win of the season, and the fifth week in a row he’s been the fastest man of the night at the Gold Country Fairgrounds track. Janniro drew lane one for the finale, got the best gate just ahead of Bryan Yarrow out of lane three, Kenny Ingalls in lane two and Charlie Venegas in lane four. Both Venegas and Yarrow were having great nights and Janniro had his work cut out for him. Janniro got to turn one first and worked the inside and middle lanes aggressively. Venegas went down on the first lap in turn four, leaving Yarrow and Ingalls to give chase, but Janniro held off Yarrow’s strong effort and took the checkered flag.
Kelly Kerrigan picked up some back yardage with his first 2009 season Handicap Main Event win at Fast Friday’s. The Vallejo resident will now be starting on the ten-yard line as he tries for a repeat next week. “I feel like I’ve got a good rhythm going and let’s see if we can put together another win off the 10 yard line next week,” said Kerrigan. Two restarts for rolling starts put four riders back in the twilight zone with Billy Janniro on the sixty yard line leaving Kerrigan on the zero and Alex Marcucci on the twenty as the handicap main got under way. Kerrigan stood his ground as Janniro worked his way through the pack giving him some pressure, but the back yardage difference was too much and Janniro had to settle for second place. It was an impressive ride for Kerrigan.
With just four nights of racing left in the exciting 2009 Fast Friday’s season, next week is the final night for riders to accumulate season track points, as the racers head into the track championships September 11, when sixteen of the top points winners in Division I will vie for the Fast Friday’s track championship. Bart Bast still leads all Division I riders with 2015 points going into Friday’s action. Billy Janniro follows with 1813, and Charlie Venegas with 1188. Division II is a tight race with Danny Turner at 625, Daniel Faria with 616, and Charles Haines with 587. Division III is also close with Casey Cornilsen leading with 591, Billy Vaughn with 566 and Dustin Berdollt putting up 562.
Next week is also the Challenge Elimination Series Championship when the five elimination series winners, Ben Essary, Charlie Venegas, Billy Janniro, Tommy Hedden, and Kenny Ingalls, will all race for championship honors.
Tyler Polk and Brandon Sheffel, of All in FMX, provided some great intermission entertainment, by jumping and performing extreme motorcycle tricks thrilling the crowd. Polk is one of the few riders that can perform a full back flip of the jump, which he did included in the pairs bag of thrilling motorcycle stunts. “It’s the Holy Grail of tricks,” said Polk.
Division II Main was won by Daniel Faria, second was Danny Poli, third was Danny Turner. Division III was won by Billy Vaughn, followed by Kjell Lovlien. The Division I Youth main was won by Meadow Vista’s Tanner Kane, second was Tyler Warren, and third was Cody Ciciarelli.
