“Gorgeous” Gary Hicks overcame mechanical gremlins by using four different bikes en route to victory in the Southern California Fair Long Track Championship at Perris Auto Speedway.
Doug “The Destroyer” Nicol entered the main event undefeated and when the five-rider field it turn one it appeared as though Nicol would continue his unbeaten string. Hicks, mounted on Brad Pappalardo’s bike, had other ideas and took the lead on the back straight. Nicol was unable to mount a challenge to recapture the lead because he slowed to a stop on the front straight with mechanical issues. Former National Champion “Flyin” Mike Faria was next in line to challenge Hicks for the lead. Hicks, who finished second at the long track event in the summer, never allowed Faria to get close enough to pose a serious threat. Hicks was first to the checkered flag, Faria finished second, Neil Facchini was third, Russell Green finished fourth, and a disappointed Nicol was fifth.
Austin Novratil dominated the Support Division by winning all four of his heats and cruised to an easy victory in the main event. Tyson Talkington was second, Rick Fehrman finished third, Bruce Marteney was fourth, and Mike Reed finished fifth.
Justin Weeks held off a very determined Mike Wiley to win the Support B Main Event. Paul Thornton was third, Steve Brown finished fourth, and Geoff Herkner was credited with fifth.
