Billy Janniro continues to dominate the scratch program at Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn.
For the third week in a row Janniro won the scratch main event, and again from outside lane four. Start line lane position and track conditions
seem to have little influence on Janniro’s ability to get inside by turn one and hold position, fending off some of Fast Friday’s best
racing talent. In the scratch main event, Janniro again drawing lane 4, with Charlie Venegas in lane three, Tommy Hedden in lane two,
and Scott Brant inside in lane one, put on a repeat performance similar the last two weeks taking the checkered flag in the nights top contest.
Venegas was in second for most of the race and challenged Janniro on every turn giving chase and applying pressure but couldn’t maneuver around
the feisty Janniro and had to settle for second place. Hedden, riding well on the rain soaked track all night, finished third, and Brant finished fourth.
In the handicap main event Scott Brant won his first main event of the 2010 Fast Friday’s season. Brant, riding impressively,
seems to be finding his groove at Fast Friday’s and fans should look for him to be working his way into the mains in weeks to
come. “I haven’t raced full time since 2004, and since then this is the first time I’ve raced three weeks in a
row,” said Brant. “As long as I’m having fun I’ll be here,” he said. Not a newcomer to speedway racing,
the Reno resident was the 2003 U.S. National Speedway Champion and hopes to be a regular at Fast Friday’s each week this season. Auburn’s Bart Bast finished second, Kelly Kerrigan was third, and Ricky Felicio was fourth.
Sidecar action returned for the first of four season appearances and as usual put on an exciting show. The team of Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen won the main event. Coming on strong and moving up from Division 3, Cody Ciciarelli won Division 2, second was Danny Turner,
and third was Matt Druey. Division 3 was won by Auburn’s Billy Parino, followed by Chris Popanz in second and Billy Vaughn was
third. PJ Bryne won the Youth Division, Tyler Warren was second, and Tanner Kane was third.
