Former National Champion Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz thrilled the crowd by scoring his first main event victory of the season at Industry Speedway.
Schwartz entered the main as the top scorer and wisely selected gate one. When the tapes went up Schwartz beat “Flyin” Mike Faria and the rest of the field to turn one. Faria pursued the former World Pairs Champion for a lap before pulling up on the back straight. That left an insurmountable gap between the 53 year old leader and the rest of the field. Schwartz went uncontested the rest of the way and was first to the checkered flag. Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell finished second, “Battling” Buck Blair was third, Austin Novratil finished fourth, and Faria was credited with fifth.
Novratil opened the heats with a win over Tyson Burmeister. “Fast” Eddie Castro beat Tyson Talkington in the second heat. Schwartz defeated Neil Facchini for his first victory. Blair beat Russell Green to end the first round.
McConnell started the second round by beating Neil Facchini. John Marquez defeated Talkington in the next heat. Faria beat Green in event 11. Schwartz finished round two with a win over Novratil.
Castro began the final round by defeating Blair. Talkington handed Schwartz his only defeat by impressively winning event 18. McConnell beat Brad Pappalardo to score his second straight win. Faria ended the heats with a win over Novratil. Faria and McConnell finished one-two in the first semi to transfer to the main. Schwartz won the second semi with Novratil following him into the main. Blair won the Last Chance to fill the final spot in the main.
Eloy Medellin charged from the ten yard line and took control of the Second Division Main Event in turn one. The veteran rider extended his lead with each lap and romped to victory. Kevin Wybenga finished second, John Pavia was third, Bubba Vazzana finished fourth, and Tim McGrath was fifth.
DeWayne “Sugar Daddy” Stark put together four smooth laps and the 69 year old claimed the victory in the Third Division Main Event. Chris Jones was second, Jake Myers finished third, Kip McClain was fourth, Tony DeAlmeida finished fifth, and Kevin Johnson was sixth.
Dillon Ruml led all four laps en route to victory in the Youth Second Division Main Event. Broc Nicol finished second, Michael Wells was third, Maverick Molloy finished fourth, and Chase Sanborn was fifth.
Sebastian Palmese led the Pee Wee Main Event from start to finish and collected the win. Tristan Britt was second, Dylan Smith finished third, Dominic Laney was fourth, Alyssa Smith finished fifth, and Walker Calvo was sixth.
National Champions Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen made the best start in the Sidecar Main Event and led the first two laps with no pressure. Gerard Jackson and Dave German closed ground on the leaders and were planted on the back tire when they took the white flag. Jones and Olsen held firm while Jackson and German made a mistake and veered toward the infield. Jones and Olsen crossed the finish line first with Dylan Beard and Crystal Laurie taking second. The program included an exhibition between two-time World Speedway Champion Bruce Penhall and sprint car racer Wally Pankratz racing Ford Focus midget sprint cars. Next week’s event will include the Speedway Racers Wheelie Competition.
