July 10, 2010 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans
“Battling” Buck Blair continued his victorious week by taking home the Scratch Main Event from Industry Speedway.
Blair started in gate one and left little doubt from the start as he blasted into the lead when the tapes went up. He was chased by Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell who was seeking his first main event victory of 2010. Blair didn’t allow himself to be hounded by McConnell, though, and increased his lead with each completed lap. Blair was first to the checkered flag, McConnell finished second, “Flyin” Mike Faria was third, “Fast” Eddie Castro finished fourth, and Tyson Burmeister was fifth.
Castro opened the heats by utilizing a brilliant cutback move on John Marquez to get the victory. Gary Hicks passed McConnell to win the second heat. Blair beat Neil Facchini for his first win. Austin Novratil ended the first round with a win over Burmeister.
McConnell started the second round by beating Castro. Tyson Talkington scored an impressive victory over Hicks in the next heat. Burmeister beat Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz in event 11. Blair beat Faria to finish round two.
McConnell used a last-turn pass on Marquez to start the final round of heats with a win. Faria and Blair had an awesome side-by-side battle in the next heat with Faria narrowly handing Blair his only defeat. Burmeister beat Facchini for his second straight win in the penultimate heat. Hicks defeated Castro in the final heat.
McConnell and Burmeister finished one-two in the first semi to book their places in the main. Blair won the second semi with Castro following him into the main. Faria won the Last Chance to fill the final spot in the main.
Chris Jones led all four laps to collect the victory and the extra cash in the Tom Foster Third Division Main Event. Tony DeAlmeida finished second, Kip McClain was third, and DeWayne Stark finished fourth.
Rocco Scopellite defeated Max Ruml to win the Youth First Division Main Event.
Broc Nicol put together four smooth laps to win the Youth Second Division Main Event for the first time in his brief career. Kurtis Hamill finished second, Dillon Ruml was third, Nick Varner finished fourth, Michael Wells was fifth, and Maverick Molloy finished sixth.
Tristan Britt fought off a late charge from Sebastian Palmese to win the Pee Wee Main Event. Palmese had to settle for second, Dominic Laney was third, Alyssa Smith finished fourth, Walker Calvo was fifth, and Jake Eagleson finished sixth.
Brian Motis and Brandi McElroy recovered from a crash the previous week in fine style by claiming victory in the Sidecar Main Event. Dylan Beard and Crystal Laurie finished second, Kevin Brown and Matt Davis were third, and Scott Driggers and Casey Driggers finished fourth.
The next event at Industry Speedway will be Harley Night and will include the very popular street-legal Harley races.
