Venegas wins Division I Scratch Main Event

Veteran speedway rider Charlie Venegas joined an elite two man club Friday night at Auburn's Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway by winning the scratch main event, and beating Billy Janniro. Venegas joined Auburn's Bart Bast as the only two riders so far this season to defeat Janniro, the 2010 USA National Speedway Champion at Fast Friday's in the scratch main event. After one restart when Tommy Hedden and Janniro went down on turn one, Venegas out of lane four was able to get a good gate and keep ahead of Janniro for the win. "Janniro a tough customer, I wouldn't have it any other way, I've had a good week, the bike's working good, and I rocketed it out of the gate pretty good tonight," said Venegas. Janniro, out of lane three was second, Tommy Hedden out of lane two was third and Bast from lane one was fourth.

Alex Marcucci who has been riding on his game lately did a great job in the handicap main event holding off Janniro for five of the six main event laps with excellent riding skills. Using the inside of the track, Marcucci kept Janniro at bay but he was no match for Janniro's experience on the final lap and Janniro took the flag after passing everyone on the sixth lap. Bob Hicks was second and Marcucci ended up third.

Bryan Yarrow made his first appearance this season at Fast Friday's after recovering from surgery in the off season. He wasted little time getting in the swing of things, finishing second in both the Division I handicap and scratch consolation races. Great to have him back racing at Fast Friday's.

Division II was won by Auburn's Tyler Warren, PJ Bryne was second, and Mellor was third. It was Kevin Chapman who took the Division III checkered flag, followed by Chris Casey in second and Shane Suzh was third. Up from Southern California Max Ruml who won the Youth A main event and Colton Hicks won the Youth B main event.

Billy Janniro won the third round of five Challenge Elimination Series races and will join Charlie Venegas and JT Mabry in the championship round on September 2.
