Tyson Burmeister slid to perfection by winning all of his heat races and the main event on Quaid Harley Davidson Night at Inland Motorcycle Speedway in San Bernardino.
Burmeister's perfect 12-point score in the heats gave him first gate choice for the main event and he selected gate one. "Battling" Buck Blair, who scored nine points in the heats, picked gate four with the second choice. Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell picked third and chose gate two. Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz, who qualified for the main event after a brilliant victory in the Last Chance, was left with gate three.
Schwartz was first off the starting line but McConnell beat him to turn one. Burmeister made an excellent move through turns one and two, got his wheels in line, and took control of the lead on the back straight. McConnell challenged Burmeister through the end of lap one but the former National runner-up was unfazed by the challenge. Burmeister stretched his lead with each lap and completed his dominant evening with his first main event victory since returning from a stint in the British Elite League last season. McConnell finished second, Blair was third, and Schwartz finished fourth.
Tim McGrath led the Second Division Main Event into turn one with a flurry of activity behind him. Mike Wiley quickly put himself into second and chased after the leader. McGrath held the lead until Wiley slipped past him on the third lap. Wiley led until the white flag and came under pressure from "Rattlesnake" Steve Bowen. Wiley fended him off through the next corner but Bowen closed quickly on the back straight. Bowen made a bold inside challenge entering the final corner but slid off. Wiley took the victory, McGrath finished second, Kayle LeoGrande was third, J.D. Myerscough finished fourth, Geoff Herkner was fifth, Kip McClain finished sixth, and Bowen was credited with seventh.
Stephen Simrak led the Third Division Main Event for two laps before Ron Davis went around the outside of him for the lead in turn one. Davis, who had started from the 20 yard line, never looked back from there and went on to victory. Simrak held on to second, Jake Hansen finished third, Lewis Hughes was fourth, Tom Bryant finished fifth, and Phill Santolucito was sixth.
The Youth 200cc Division suffered from attrition after two crashes in their second heat. Sebastian Palmese was forced out for the rest of the evening after a crash in turn two. On the restart Jonas LeoGrande was involved in a scary incident during which he was dragged down the back straight after his helmet was caught on the foot peg of another rider. Thankfully, he only suffered relatively minor injuries, but didn't compete the rest of the night.
Adam Herkner led the Youth 200cc Main Event for two laps but Braydan Galvin, who started from the 60 yard line, made a brilliant cutback move exiting turn two the third time and took the lead. Galvin cruised to the checkered flag and collected the win. Michael Wells finished second and Herkner was third.
Sara Cords led the Pee Wee Main Event from start to finish and earned the victory. Juliann Copeland was second, Jonas LeoGrande finished third, Nick Dunn was fourth, Julia Pierson finished fifth, and Luke Whitcomb was sixth.
The next event at IMS is Fan Appreciation Night on Friday, June 1 and will have all divisions of speedway as well as the sidecars.
