In another entertaining night of racing at the superfast Victorville Speedway, Eddie Castro and Gino Manzares took the 6th Annual Best Pairs title, whilst Charlie Venegas closed out the night with a win in the rider of the night final.
The Pairs had just 4 teams this year, rider injuries and season attrition playing its part, but despite numbers the show was first class. The Pairs part of the program had each team meeting once in the first three rounds with the top two teams going to a sudden death final and the lower two to a B Final. The competition employed a 4,3,2,0 scoring system, thus encouraging team riding. The Castro Manzares team meant business from the off with 7-2 maximum wins in the first two rounds. Charlie Venegas split the Pairing in round three with Castro winning - it was enough to put them in the final with Venegas and Russell Green in competition. The final turned into two epic battles - Venegas leading home Castro for the win of the heat but Manzares keeping Green at the back to give a 5-4 heat advantage to Castro and Manzares.
The Main event saw Venegas get a lightning gate and win flag to flag. Castro settled into second with Manzares coming home third and Max Ruml in 4th.
The Support Class Pairs was a close encounter - 3 rounds of racing saw Ron Davis and Joey St.Louis beat Dillon Ruml and Steve Howard 14 points to 13. Sara Cords was the winner in all three Pee Wee Races. She and Eddie Castro beat Dakota Shockley and Max Ruml in a special Pairs relay race - the Speedway Bikes did two laps and then as they crossed the line their Pee Wee team mates went out and did the final two laps.
A good field of 6 Sidecars provided some stellar battled with the familiar #1 of Chris Jones and Johnny Glover coming out on top.
Four races remain on the 2012 Victorville schedule - September 1 and 29, October 20 and November 10.
