2013 AMA/FIM Youth Speedway Silver Cup Championship - Industry Racing, CA, USA - August 17

Luke Becker, Sebastian Palmese, and Sterling Martin collected the biggest trophies in their respective divisions but Youth Speedway in America was the biggest winner after the successful and historic staging of the AMA/FIM Youth Speedway Silver Cup Championship at Industry Racing.

Twenty-eight competitors comprised three divisions in a total of 31 races in the standalone amateur speedway event. Everyone raced four heats each with the top four point scorers from each division competing in their own Final to determine overall winner of each division.

The Junior 250 Championship Final had to be restarted when two riders were left on the ground in turn one. Becker led the restart through turn one while National Champion Broc Nicol went to the outside to try to get the lead. Nicol's effort was unsuccessful so he dropped in behind the leader and hoped to pressure him into a mistake. Becker was unfazed and calmly led the way to the checkered flag. Nicol had to settle for second, Kurtis Hamill finished third, and Dillon Ruml was fourth.

Sebastian Palmese and Courtney Crone dueled side-by-side through the first corner of the Mini 150 First Division Championship Final but Palmese surged ahead on the back straight. Crone was overtaken by Molloy for second and had to turn her focus on regaining that position. Palmese, who was unbeaten in his heats, pulled away and cruised to the victory but the battle behind him was fierce as Molloy fought off every outside challenge that Crone could muster as they approached the final corner. Crone entered the corner wide again but cut back under Molloy as they exited turn four and narrowly defeated him at the finish line. Northern California's Dylan Wagner was fourth.

The Mini 150 Second Division Championship Final was delayed when Slater Lightcap broke the tapes and was excluded. The heartbroken rider had to watch the Final from the infield. Sterling Martin got away from the tapes first in the restart with Logan Hedden and Sam Hagon giving chase. Sterling Martin opened up a comfortable lead and put together four smooth laps for the win. Hedden finished second, Hagon was third, and Lightcap was credited with fourth.

The Junior 250 heats started with Nicol using the outside to pass and defeat Hamill. Becker held off Ruml to win the next heat. Nicol defeated Hayley Perrault for his second straight win. Becker chased Hamill for three laps before powering around the outside for the lead and the win. Becker overcame a tape penalty for his third straight win. Dalton Leedy scored an upset victory over Ruml and Nicol to finish the third round. Hamill beat Ruml to start the fourth round. Nicol beat Becker in the showdown of unbeaten riders in event 24. Ruml held off Dryden Gayle for his first win. Hamill beat Colton Hicks to end the 250 heats with his second win.

Palmese kicked off the day by winning the first 150 Mini First Division heat. He made it two in a row with a comeback win over Wagner. Crone used the outside to defeat Molloy for her first win. Palmese then scored his third straight win. Crone won event 25 for her second straight win. Palmese won the final 150 Mini First Division Heat to remain perfect.

Hedden opened the first round of 150 Mini Second Division Heats by beating Tristan Britt. Lightcap beat Alex Martin in the next heat. Sterling Martin used the outside to take the lead at the end of an exciting first lap and took the win to end round one. Hedden started round two with his second win in a row. Hagon beat Britt for his first win. Sterling Martin ended the second round with his second consecutive win. Lightcap beat Jake Isaac to start the third round with his second win. Hagon made it two straight victories by holding off Dylan Smith. Sterling Martin passed Dryden LeoGrande en route to his third consecutive win. Lightcap opened the final round of Mini 150 Second Division Heats with a win over Smith to put himself into the Final. Britt beat Hagon in the penultimate heat, but the latter had enough points to make the Final. Martin beat Hedden to remain perfect as both rides qualified for the Final.

Industry Racing promoters Kelly Inman and Carol Perez were very excited to bring the event to their facility and are confident that this was the first of many more standalone events in the future. They also gave credit to Billy Hamill and Bruce Stjernstrom for their help and support in helping to promote the event and for their dedication to the growth of the junior program and the future of American speedway.

The next event at Industry Racing will be the final regular event of their 2013 season. The following event on Wednesday, August 28 will be the 38th running of the California State Championship. Their final event of the year will be the 2013 Monster Energy World Speedway Invitational on Saturday, December 28.
