Industry Racing, CA, USA - June 10 AMA National Champion Billy “The Kid” Janniro won a hard-fought Scratch Main Event and was narrowly defeated in the Handicap Main Event by Rocco Scopellite during another night of fantastic action at Industry Racing. Scopellite lined up on the 20 yard line and was at the front of the Handicap Main field. He led through the first lap but was Russell Green was closing on him. Green was making the outside work but he found some grip at the wrong time and we went straight instead of overtaking the leader. This gave Scopellite a temporary reprieve but Janniro was mowing through the field after having started on the 50 yard line. Janniro got to second and attacked Scopellite from the outside on lap five. The two raced handlebar-to-handlebar for a lap and the battle was going to come down to the final corner. Scopellite hugged the inside line while Janniro made one more attempt to use the outside cushion. Scopellite’s inside line proved just slightly better as he narrowly defeated Janniro at the finish line. Last week’s Handicap Main winner Dillon Ruml finished third, Aaron Fox was fourth, Green finished fifth, and Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell was credited with sixth. The draw for the Scratch Main yielded Fox in gate one, Janniro in gate two, “Battling” Buck Blair in gate three, and former National Champion Charlie “The Edge” Venegas in gate four. As soon as the tapes went up the inside-outside was between Fox and Janniro commenced. The raced side-by-side for two laps with neither competitor gaining an advantage over the other while showing a contrast in styles. Fox was smooth on the inside while Janniro was jockeying his machine through the outside with the front wheel lifting at times and putting his rear tire against the fence. Janniro boldly dropped in on Fox as they entered turn one the third time but his momentum didn’t allow him to clamp down the inside and he had to resume his attack on the outside. He finally surged ahead as they entered turn three and was able to secure the lead as they took the white flag. Fox tried to fight back on the final lap but Janniro was first to the checkered flag. Venegas was third and Blair finished fourth. Nathan Siegel led all four laps en route to victory in the Second Division Main Event. Mike Wiley was second, David Lynch finished third, and Bentley Barrett was fourth. Wade Whitcomb withstood the constant outside attack from Steve “Beach Ball” Brown to claim the victory in the Third Division Main Event. Kevin “Rip” Fife finished third and Greg Willis was fourth. Sebastian “Big Daddy” Palmese won his heat, his semi, and closed out his perfect evening by winning the Junior 250 Main Event. Jake Isaac finished second, Kyle Cunningham was third, and Michael Wells finished fourth. Slater Lightcap and Landon Collins started the Mini 150 Main Event evenly before Lightcap surged ahead on the back straight. Lightcap never looked back from there and led to the finish. Collins had to settle for second, Charlie Trana was third, and Dakota Shockley finished fourth. Cole Ayers jumped to the early lead in the Pee Wee Main Event. Travis Horn chased him down, though, and took the lead at the end of the first lap. Any hopes that Ayers had of retaking the lead ended when fell in turn two. Horn led the rest of the way for his third straight main event victory. Richard Stephens finished second, Levi Leutz was third, Conner Salazar finished fourth, and Ayers was credited with fifth. Joe Jones and Tom Summers fought off a race-long attack from Jeff Rowe and Ashley Gibbons and won the Sidecar Main Event. Stuart Glass and Jack Straw finished third and National Champions Bryan Motis and Josh Bennett were fourth.
