2017 Junior Kurtz Memorial Trophy - Industry Racing, CA, USA - August 16, 2017

“Mad” Max Ruml added another piece of hardware to his collection by winning the Junior Kurtz Memorial Trophy at Industry Racing.

The first attempt to run the main event ended prematurely when former Junior 250 National Champion Dillon Ruml fell and was excluded from the restart. Max Ruml, who started in gate one, was first from the starting line the second time the tapes went up. He led through the first lap but had Broc Nicol challenging on the outside. Max Ruml stuck to his inside line and Nicol was steadfast to his wide run. Nicol couldn’t muster enough traction to get around the leader though. Max Ruml was first to the finish line, Nicol had to settle for second, Gino Manzares was third, and Dillon Ruml was credited with fourth.

Manzares started the evening with a win over Austin “All Throttle” Novratil. Tyson Burmeister defeated Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell in event two. Nicol ended round one by beating Dillon Ruml.

McConnell and Fox began round two with a side-by-side duel that eventually went to McConnell. Manzares made it two wins in a row by defeating Max Ruml. Burmeister beat Novratil for his second consecutive victory to finish the second round.

Dillon Ruml opened the third round by beating Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz. Max Ruml beat Nicol in the next heat. Manzares beat McConnell to close out the heats as the only racer with a perfect score.

Nicol ended Manzares’s winning streak by using the outside to win the first semi. Manzares finished second to also transfer to the main. Max Ruml won the second semi with his brother, Dillon, finishing second to make the main as well.

Michael “Scooter” Wells passed Rudy Laurer on the second lap and never looked back on his way to victory in the Second Division Main Evnet. Laurer had to settle for second, Chet Kohler was third, and David Lynch finished fourth.

“Gentleman” Jake Isaac defeated Sara Cords to win the Junior 250 Main Event.

Travis Horn led from start to finish en route to victory in the Mini 150 First Division Main Event. “Lightning” Luke Whitcomb was second and Slater Lightcap finished third.

Levi “Cowboy” Leutz weaved past four other racers and took home top honors in the Mini 150 Second Division Main Event. Owen Williams finished second, Gordon Teuber III was third, Jose “Nitro” Navarrete finished fourth, Andrew Russell was fifth, and Cole Ayers finished sixth.

Connor Salazar took over the lead at the end of lap two and raced away with the win in the Pee Wee Main Event. Ken Matsudaira finished second and Dakota Black was third.

Bryan Motis and Johnny Bach were victorious in the Sidecar Main Event. National Champions Joe Jones and Tom Summers were second, Josh Heenand and Josh Bennett finished third, and Jeff Rowe and Heather Gledhill were fourth.
