Billy “The Kid” Janniro raced through the evening undefeated and won the main event in front of a full house on Harley Night at the world famous Costa Mesa Speedway.
Janniro had first choice of gate position for the main event and shocked the crowd by picking gate four. National Champion Broc Nicol then chose gate one. Tyson Burmeister selected gate two and that left Jimmy “Little Animal” Fishback with gate three.
The first time the tapes went up there was a tight battle in to turn one. Nicol and Burmeister got into each other with Nicol going over the high side and Burmeister going down as well. Both racers remained down and the initial feelings were that Nicol probably got the worst of it but that was far from correct. Despite having some soreness in his leg, he was able to get up and eventually restart but Burmeister was down with a very serious injury. He was eventually taken off the track via stretcher and transported to a local hospital. Later reports diagnosed him with a broken hip.
The restart was anticlimactic as Janniro made a great start and swept around the outside for the lead. Nicol gave chase but the leader was steadily pulling away. The effects of the crash were obviously impacting Nicol as he began to slow and Fishback snatched second from him. Janniro won his first main event victory at Costa Mesa in five years, Fishback finished second, and Nicol was third.
Janniro gave an indication of how his evening would go by winning the opening heat ahead of Burmeister. Fishback led event two for three laps but Nicol passed him on the final lap to snatch the win. Opening Night main event winner Austin Novratil beat former National Champion Chris Manchester in the next heat. Dillon Ruml ended round one with a win over Aaron Fox.
Round two began with Ruml leading Janniro for two laps before the multi-time National Champion swept around the outside to take the lead and his second straight win. Burmeister defeated Nicol for his first victory. Fishback beat former National Champion Charlie “The Edge” Venegas in event 11. Fox finished the second round with a win ahead of Jason Ramirez.
Janniro started the final round by roaring to a victory over Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell. Nicol beat Venegas to score his second win. Burmeister held off Manchester for his second straight win. Fox made it two in a row with a win over Fishback to conclude the heats.
Nicol was victorious in the first semi with Burmeister getting second to join him in the main. Janniro won the second semi with Fishback finishing second.
Rohn Zellner led from start to finish and captured the Second Division Main Event. Rudy Laurer was second, Charlie Pearson finished third, and Lawrence McNutt was fourth.
National Champions Joe Jones and Tom Summers were victorious in the Sidecar Main Event. Dillon Osborne and Ashley Gibbons finished second, Bryan Motis and Johnny Bach were third, and Kevin Holman and Blake Cronkrite were credited with fourth.
Harley Night once again proved to be a success at the turnstiles as a large crowd was on hand to watch speedway, sidecars, and the ever-popular street-legal Harley and Hooligan races.
