Costa Mesa SpeedwayOrange County Fairgrounds Speedway Costa Mesa Speedway - September 22, 2018 Dillon “Pickle” Ruml claimed victory in the Scratch Main Event in front of a large crowd on RSD Hooligan Night at the world famous Costa Mesa Speedway. Dillon Ruml started in gate two and got across his brother, Max, entering turn one and clamped down on the inside to secure the lead as they raced down the back straight. Max Ruml had his eyes on the leader but also had to contend with Austin Novratil behind him. Dillon Ruml led through lap two while Novratil made his past Max Ruml and into second. Novratil then turned his attention toward the leader but it was to no avail. Dillon Ruml held a comfortable lead and crossed the finish line first. Novratil finished second, Max Ruml was third, and Gage Geist finished fourth. Geist opened the heats by defeating Dillon Ruml. Max Ruml beat Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell in the next heat. Former National Champion Aaron Fox finished the first round by beating Novratil. The second round began with Fox and Dillon Ruml engaged in a fierce handlebar-to-handlebar battle. Their conflict took them a little wide exiting turn two the third lap. That’s when former National Champion Chris Manchester used his guile and charged underneath both of them for the lead. He led to the finish and was greeted with a rousing ovation from the crowd. Novratil beat McConnell to end round two. Round three started with Dillon Ruml beating his brother. Novratil defeated Fox for his second straight win. Geist ended the heats with a win over Manchester. Manchester was victorious in the Scratch Consolation. Sammy Ramirez finished second, McConnell was third, and Fox was credited with fourth. Harold Hartke led the Second Division Main Event through lap one. He had Eloy Medellin glued to his back tire throughout lap two but he managed to keep him at bay. Medellin continued the pressure and it paid off. Hartke drifted wide exiting turn four and Medellin stormed up the inside as they took the white flag. John Wilder also went by Hartke but he had nothing for the new leader. Medellin took home the victory, Wilder was second, a disappointed Hartke finished third, and David Lynch was fourth.
