Costa Mesa Speedway - September 21, 2019
Austin “All Throttle” Novratil was in a class of his own all night long and romped to victory in the Scratch Main Event in front of a large crowd on RSD Super Hooligan Night at the world famous Costa Mesa Speedway.
With 31 hooligan events on the program and a speedway field decimated by another big event being held on the same night, the roster of speedway racers slimmed down and they all competed together in a single division. This created a wide range of speed and ability on the race track throughout the night.
Novratil and Sebastian “Big Daddy” Palmese both entered the main event with perfect scores but Novratil won the draw and got to choose his starting position first. He didn’t hesitate in choosing gate one. 16 year old Palmese then picked gate two. Bakersfield’s Brad Sauer selected gate three and Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz was left with gate four.
Palmese jumped into the lead when the tapes went up and led into turn one. He continued at the front on the back straight but Novratil was right behind him. Novratil stormed up the inside of his younger competitor and took the lead at the end of the first lap. There was no drama from there as the former Under 21 National Champion raced off into the sunset and was first to the checkered flag. Palmese finished second and Sauer held off Schwartz for third.
Sauer kicked off the heats with a victory over John Wilder. Palmese defeated Schwartz in event two. Joey Donaldson won the third heat over Tyler Moszer. Novratil ended the first round with a win over “Gentleman” Jake Isaac.
Sauer started the second round by making it two wins in a row. Schwartz beat Mike Miller to win event 12. Novratil won the next heat for his second straight win. Palmese finished round two by beating Isaac.
Novratil remained perfect by beating Sauer to open round three. Palmese matched Novratil’s perfect score with a win over Schwartz. Moszer scored the victory over Donaldson in the next heat. Isaac closed out the heats with a win over Hayley Perrault.
Wilder put together four smooth laps and won the Scratch Consolation. Isaac finished second, Moszer was third, and Donaldson finished fourth.
