Salute to the Military
June 26, 2019 - Industry Racing
By Ryan Evans
“Mad” Max Ruml returned from a week off due to injury and turned in an immaculate performance and won the Scratch Main Event on Military Appreciation Night at Industry Racing.
After a lot of pondering, Max Ruml chose to start from gate four in the Scratch Main Event. His brother, Dillon, then picked gate two. Aaron Fox selected gate one which left Northern California’s Blake Borello with gate three.
Dillon Ruml was away from the starting line first but then found Fox on his inside and Max Ruml on his outside as they exited turn two. They raced three abreast on the back straight before Max Ruml used the extreme outside line to take the lead entering turn three. Fox secured second behind the leader and while he attempted to chase down the leader he also had to protect his position from Dillon Ruml. Max Ruml stretched his lead and raced away with his third Industry Racing Scratch Main victory of the season. Dillon Ruml made a late charge exiting the final corner but Fox narrowly hung on to second. Borello finished in fourth.
Fox opened the evening by defeating Russell Green. Max Ruml beat Sebastian “Big Daddy” Palmese in event two. Dillon Ruml defeated Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell in the next heat. Austin “All Throttle” Novratil ended the first round by beating Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz.
Round two started with Green beating Borello. Max Ruml defeated Fox for his second win in a row. Schwartz held off McConnell in the next heat. Palmese scored an impressive win to finish the second round.
Dillon Ruml began the third round with a victory over “Fast” Eddie Castro. Novratil used the outside to beat Green. Palmese made it two straight sold wins after holding off Fox. Max Ruml completed the heats by defeating Borello.
Ruml used gate four to sweep around the outside to victory in the first semi with Fox taking second and also transferring to the main. The second semi began with an epic battle between Dillon Ruml and Novratil but they made contact in turn four which caused Novratil’s steed to buck him off in wild fashion. Novratil was fine but his bike was a write-off. On the restart Dillon Ruml led all the way with Borello impressing the Southern California fans by making the main.
Green led the Scratch Consolation from start to finish for the victory. McConnell finished second and Palmese came in third.
Harold Hartke, making his first appearance at Industry this season, made a great start and led all the way to the finish in the Second Division Main Event. David Lynch was second, Rudy Laurer finished third, and Dylan Black was credited with fourth.
Despite constant pressure the entire race, David Newsham held on to record the victory in the Third Division Main Event. Tyler Moszer had to settle for second, Dennis Osmer was third, and Jake Myers finished fourth.
Slater Lightcap put together four smooth laps en route to his fourth Industry Racing Junior 250 Main Event victory of the season. Wilbur Hancock was second, “Lightning” Luke Whitcomb finished third, and Andrew Russell was fourth.
Nick Dunn was the initial leader of the five-rider Mini 150 Main Event. He remained at the front until Levi “Cowboy” Leutz went around the outside on the third lap. Leutz was never threatened from there and cruised to the victory. Dunn impressively held on to second, Owen Williams finished third, Nick Hohlbein was fourth, and Jose Navarrete finished fifth.
Jenson Horn defeated Rosie Russell in the Pee Wee Main Event.
National Champions Joe Jones and Josh Flammia made it three Industry Racing Sidecar Main Event victories in as many attempts this season. Ace Kale and Brent Smith finished second, Kevin Kale and Tracy Gallagher were third, and Kevin Holman and Shannen Hennessey finished fourth.
Military Appreciation Night honored all active and retired military. This included putting Eloy Medellin on the cover of the program. Industry Racing will be dark next week due to the Independence Day holiday but will be back on Wednesday, July 10.
