Shocking to read this less than 48 hours after a stellar event. Local Government gone mad including a homeowners association from recently built houses next to a race track. Madness and insanity. 16 Speedway riders in 3 Divisions were part of close to 200 total entries in ‘Motorcycle Madness’ at Santa Maria Raceway. After a three year break in motorcycle events and due to the sheer volume of support, track conditions were tricky but the riders made the best of it.

After a hugely successful event with a big local crowd the venues owner Nick Duggan announced on Monday the shock immediate closure of the facility. Duggan cited issues with the County withdrawing entertainment permits it had previously approved ahead of a 7 figure investment in the facility and complaints of noise from a new housing development opened in 2019, 55 years after the track began. It is likely that Saturday’s event will be the last ever motorsport event at the iconic Central Coast venue.

Aaron Fox won the Division 1 Main and a heat with Rheten Todd taking the other heat. Mike Lane swept the Support Class. Chris Mistretta won a heat and main in the Upright Class whilst Robin Nicolaides, son of speedway pioneer Nick Nicolaides who raced for a USA team based out of Dublin Ireland in the 1950s, won the other heat.
