What a gorgeous night for taking in some fantastic speedway racing in Auburn California at Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway. A good crowd made their way Friday night into the McCann Stadium, kicked back and enjoyed at great night of racing.
Broc Nicol who must be enjoying the foothills, makes the trip from Southern California to Auburn each week to race at Fast Friday's tricky dirt oval. Nicol picked up another scratch main event and was crowned the fastest man of the night. Nicol has won two of the four scratch main events so far this season. He has made the cut and qualified for three of the four main events. Nicol was perfect in the scratch program winning his heat, semi-final and then the main. He's a great addition to the Fast Friday's racing family racing week in Auburn bringing his racing talent and skill up north. Louie Mersaroli who turned in a strong night was second, Blake Borello was third and Billy Janniro was fourth.
Having a stunning night young Greg Moore 19, won the handicap main event his first win this season. Moore has been swinging his leg over a speedway bike since he began racing in the junior division in 2009 and comes from a family of motorcycle racers. Moore for now is handicapped on the zero line but is sure to be checking out the dirt on the 10-yard line next week. He was third in his heat race, first in his semi-final and then hung in there for his first main event win of the season. Mersaroli, riding off the 30-yard line in the handicap program, was second turning in a very strong night with a second place finish here and in the scratch main event. Blake Borello also handicapped on the 30-yard line finished third.
In the Fast Friday's season track points race Division I could not be tighter. Billy Janniro is leading Broc Nicol by just one point after three nights of racing. Janniro sits with 381 points and Nicol has 380 points. Real close behind but still very much in the hunt is Louie Mersaroli with 377 points. In Division II Aidan McNutt leads with 178 points followed by John Peters with 156 points. Catherine Moore is leading Division III with 179 points and John Gauthreaux is in second place with 166 points. Complete and updated point totals can be found at www.fastfridays.com.
This week Division II and Division III were combined into a Support Class which Hunter Castillo won the main event. Weekly in Division III Castillo won his heat race to transfer to the main event. Catherine Moore was second and John Peters was third.
In the Youth 250 division Caden Cavrikas picked up his first main event win of the season. Darren Armbruster who has had a lock on the Youth 250 division without a loss this season, was heavily handicapped by referee Steve Lucero on the hundred line. Armbruster charged hard but Cavrikas held his ground keeping the speedy Armbruster at bay and picked up the win. Armbruster was second.
In another great race by a member of the Rearick family Riley Rearick won the Youth 150 division main event. Rearick starts on the zero line and got into a tight race with speed demon Matthew Wright who starts on the 50-yard line. Wright wasted no time getting up to Rearick from his deep handicap and locked onto him in a neck and neck race. Wright put on the pressure but Rearick but would not yield and did a fantastic job of keeping ahead of Wright and in a tight finish took the checkered flag. Wright was second and Wesley Rearick was third.
In the second round of the Team Challenge Team Law Tigers pulled ahead of Team M-45 with strong performances by Blake Borello and Louie Mersaroli who both scored wins and three points each for the Law Tigers. Greg Moore added one point for Team Law Tigers. For Team M-45 Daniel Faria and Broc Nicol each scored two points each and Russell Green added one more. The final score for round two rested at Team Law Tigers seven points and Team M-45 five points. After two rounds Team Law Tigers leads with 13 points over Team M-45 with 11 points. The team grudge match continues June 23 with round three of the Team Challenge.
Next week June 9, the speedway racing action continues at Fast Friday's with Vintage Night. Vintage speedway bikes will take to the track in a special division and racing legend Joe Petrali will be honored.
