It's hard to believe but the 2024 Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway season is already half over. The fantastic and exciting speedway racing season is going so fast. This week was week 12 and round five of the IFC Financial vs. Law Tigers Team Challenge. The challenge is a team racing series that runs throughout the season with five meetings and a championship finale. Teams race to score points, and the team that scores the most points after the final wins the purse at the end of the series.

Team Law Tigers came into round five holding an eight-point 33-25 lead over IFC Financial and added to their tally by scoring eleven points in round five. The Law Tigers had strong finishes behind Billy Janniro and Slater Lightcap who had wins in their races and scored three points each for their team. Chase Kangas added two points for a second-place finish and Antonio Coffman and Russell chipped in one point each for third place finishes.

IFC Financial did their best to add to their tally and added seven points to their count. Greg Moore scored a first-place finish and three points, Alex Martin and Blake Borello added two points each with second place finishes. Final score after the fifth round of the season long team racing match-up had the Law Tigers at 44 points and IFC Financial with 32 points going into the final championship round on August 9. There is still a chance for IFC Financial to catch the Law Tigers, but they need to score some points and for sure the racing will be exciting in the final.

In the scratch main event the riders lined up as usual. Billy Janniro, Broc Nicol, Bart Bast and Slater Lightcap worked their way to the main and lined up on the start line. As the tapes went up, and in a move, you rarely see, eleven- time AMA National Speedway Champion Billy Janniro took a terrifying crash. Coming out of turn two trying to pass Nicol on the outside Janniro got some traction and hit the wall straight on and literately broke his bike in half. The mishap also caused Slater Lightcap to fall as half of Janniro's bike slid across the track. Both riders were soon up and surprisingly not seriously hurt but were unable to restart. This left Nicol and Bast to run for the “Fastest Man of the Night” title in a restart called by referee Steve Lucero.

Out of the gate Bast had Nicol's number and led for the entire race picking up his second scratch main event win of the season. Nicol was second, Janniro was excluded for causing the crash and Lightcap was awarded a third-place finish.

Lightcap, who was having a great night, came out on top in the handicap main event. Lightcap, riding off the 20-yard line was second in his heat race, second in his semi-final and then capped his night with a win in the main in the handicap program. Lightcap led for the entire race followed by Bast, and Blake Borello and that was the finishing order for the top three.

Hunter Castillo was first in the support main event his third win of the season in the support class program. Castillo was third in his support heat then transferred to the main for the win. Castillo and Larry Staggs rode neck and neck for most of the race and were really close in the final lap with Castillo catching Staggs in a near photo finish at the finish line in a fantastic race. Larry Staggs was second and Catherine Moore was third. Castillo rides off the 30-yard line but might be checking out the dirt on the 40-yard-line next week.

The Youth 250 main event was won by Brady Landon, who has not raced at Fast Fridays in several weeks gone overseas racing in Sweden, where he became a world champion winning the prestigious SGP4 World Cup. The almost 14-year-old Roseville resident has compiled quite a racing resume in a short period of time. Landon will be one of several top contenders for the AMA Youth 250 championship later this season on August 31. Jameson Hutchinson was second and current AMA Youth 250 Champion Darren Armbruster was third.

Riley Rearick extended his Youth 150 main event streak to 12 winning again Friday night. Rearick has won all the Youth 150 main events so far this season. Rearick won both his heat races and the main event. Zander Schroeder was second, and up from the pee-wee division and in his first race on a 150cc bike, Logan Kerr was third.

It has been a great season of exciting speedway racing so far with more racing including championship racing coming up at Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway. Up next on August 2nd Fast Fridays will welcome back to the “Tricky Dirt Oval” at the Gold Country Fairgrounds round four of the Extreme Sidecar Series. Should be an exciting night of two and three-wheeled racing.

	Hunter Castillo won the support class main event. The win was his third support main event win of the season.
	Brady Landon is back at Fast Fridays and won the Youth 250 main event. Landon returned from racing in Sweden where he won the 2024 SPG4 World Cup becoming a world champion.
