A good nights racing, but several top riders seem to be missing, so early in the season. Non attendees included Gary Hicks, Doug Nicol, Mark Hannah (broken elbow and ribs) Jerry Black, Rob Pfetzing, to name but a few.

The evening was however supplemented by the unexpected pleasure of sitting next to my old buddy Phil Collins, and his very nice American wife, Lisa, and their 2 kids. After retiring from the British League, Phil raced here very successfully for 4 years and has now settled in Grover Beach, about 200 miles north of Los Angeles. He is racing at Paso Robles, in Central California on July 6 and was in the process of being talked into riding in the Legends of Speedway meeting at Costa Mesa on June 28. His last ride was at the Sam Ermolenko Testimonial.

Next Saturday is the opening of a new track at Bakersfield, about 150 miles north of Los Angeles. Many of the old names, not riding so far this season at Costa Mesa, will be there. Should be a good night.
