Week 6
June 13, 1998 - IMI Motorsports Complex
From: Jennifer Susich, fainche@earthlink.net
Round One
Gene "The Dancin' Machine" Petz got the gate in race two but was
quickly overcome by the winner, Pat "The Rat" Litt. Likewise,
Jay "Do or Die" Gruetzmacher got the gate in race three, with
Rob "Fire" Ball taking the checkered.
Round Two
Don "Batman" Foster got the gate in race one, but
Dave "Colorado Cowboy" Pieper was first in the corner.
Petz passed Foster on the front straight to come in second behind
Cowboy Pieper. Race three showed a close battle between Litt and Ball.
Litt went wide turn four, but Ball missed his chance to pass and
Litt won. King Kenny Pieper left the line so quick in race three,
Tom "Kamikaze Kid" Kern was stunned and forgot to start for an instant.
A wave of dust overcame the track and everyone was blinded, but
instinct carried our riders over the finish line with King Pieper
leading the way.
Round Three
King Pieper led this race until turn 3 of lap 2, when he decided
to see how the hay bales were holding up. They tested well.
Cowboy Pieper took the win. Kern got the gate and was first into
turn one in race two. Litt passed Ball on the back straight.
Kern wobbled on turn three, lap two and Litt and Ball passed.
Litt followed in King Kenny’s tracks, though, and visited the
infamous Rat Hole on lap three. Ball won. Race three witnessed
Ron "Pig Pen" Grace, Jr. going wide in turn four, letting
Calvin "The Calvinator" Harrington pass. Grace quickly recovered
his ground, though, and came in second behind Conn "The Con Man" Harris.
Round Four
Kern got the gate and was first into the corner of race one.
Harris passed Mike "I Need a Nickname" Rohr on turn two. Petz
tried sticking close to Kern, but Kern pulled away for a clean
win in race one. Cowboy Pieper went inside to pass Litt on turn
three but got so excited he went down shortly thereafter. Litt won,
followed by Grace in race two. Ball got the gate in race three,
but Foster was first out of the first corner. Ball went under
for the win.
Round Five
Competition slowed as the night wore on. Ball, Litt and Kern won
races one, two and three, respectively.
Run-offs
Harris, Petz and Kern tied for fourth and Litt and Cowboy Pieper
tied for second. The run-off for fourth was led by Kern. Petz
tried to catch him but lagged a little behind. Litt led Cowboy Pieper
from the gate to the checkered.
