2. Shane McAfee -- Jawa 888.5
3. Shane Gollfini -- Jawa 897
4. Herb Warford -- Jawa 897
5. Tyler Hansen -- Weslake
Our first race of the season put on by Rod Nelson and ISRA Vice President -- Trevor Reynolds was a success--. We have added some new young
riders this season and have some new venues to race at. The planned
1/10 mile speedway track was not quite completed for this event so we
rode on the existing banked 1/5th mile clay track. The track was set up
quite sticky for the mini sprints and go-karts which made for some
difficult but very fast speedway racing. Newcomer Tyler Hansen showed
promise in practice but due to mechanical problems and crashes was
limited to a fifth place overall finish.

Division One
1. Brendon Fennessy -- Jawa 884.5
2. Jeff Waters -- Jawa 897
3. Tom Sherman -- Jawa 894
4. Shane McAfee -- Jawa 888.5
5. Justin Young -- Weslake
Flattracker Justin Young joined the ranks of speedway for the first
time. He was running in second in the first heat until he came off. The
second heat had good action with Brendan Fennessy coming from last to
take the lead on the last lap. The 3rd heat saw Jeff Waters finish a
strong second keeping pace with the leader.
Division Two
1. Marty Sheffs -- Jawa 894
2. Dan Pignotti -- Weslake
3. Mike Hanson -- Jawa 894
4. Tyler Hansen -- Weslake
Marty Sheffs -- the two wheeler extrordinare -- this dude does not even
have a steel shoe! Marty won the first two heats by holding the pole --
to the frustration of Dan Pignotti. In the 3rd heat Dan figured out he
better get in front and take the pole from Marty. Dan went on to win the
3rd heat. Tyler Hansen looked good but crashes kept him down in the
standings.
Meridian Motor Speedway
Boise, Idaho
May 28, 1999
From: Brendon Fennessy
The opening night at Meridian speedway in Boise, Idaho came off as a
success with a few local flattrackers making their debut into speedway.
Most notable is Jeff Russell-- local fast guy stock car racer and
flattracker. He seems to go just as well on a Jawa as he does on his
Rotax. The promotor is really putting forth an effort by giving 25% of
the gate back to the riders. Rainy weather kept the crowds down this
time but that is sure to change as the summer goes on.
Track prep left much to be desired because of the crews
inexperience with the needs of speedway. The track was a combination of
sticky and slick clay with plenty of holes to keep you airborne. Never
the less the action was still great despite a lot of two wheeling and
crashes.
Jeff Russell riding a Jawa twin cam no less took the first heat
ahead of veterans Shane McAfee and Marty Spellman. Marty made the long
trek over from the coast to support the ISRA program. The second heat
belonged to another first timer Dan Knudson riding absentee Brendan
Fennessy's Jawa 884.5. Jeff Waters who finished a strong second in
Salmon, Idaho last week unfortunately finished further down in the
results this week. The division two had Randy Mackenzie taking the
overall on a Jawa 894. Brandon Shimmelfinig made a strong showing by
winning a heat. Newcomers Steve Randall and Tyson Sustine rounded out
the div 2 results.
