Jeff Orosz - Champion of the Night

Although the rain held off, the Canadian season opener at Paris was affected by the weather. The combination of the threat of rain and a cold windy evening, combined with some pre meeting mechanical troubles, resulted in a lower than expected turnout.

Jeff Orosz went unbeaten after his first outing in which he started off the penalty line after touching the tapes. He had a comfortable win in the Main event after passing Andy Harris on the inside going into turn three on lap one. Harris also had a good meeting and but for a fall while leading would have topped the qualifiers. Gary Hesmer and Fred Legault had some spirited battles and the youngsters Casey Franic and Joe Heye were on the pace with the veterans all night. D1 racing promises to provide excellent entertainment this year. Gary Hesmer had a very confused night after hitting his head on the door of his bike trailer in the pit area. We hope to see him doing better next week.

Jeremy Musson moved up a class and looked impressive in winning D2. However the feature of the night was the performance of the newcomers in D3. Kyle Legault, Fred's son, and Todd Musson, Jeremy's younger brother, showed most impressive style, speed and control in their speedway debuts. Legault with three wins, a fall and a DNF, both while leading, won the Main ahead of a much improved Rob Dixson, Musson and Aaron De Veau who came out on top of the qualifying rounds. The question in D3 this year may not be who will finish on top but who will be the first of the group to move up to D2.
