After seriously heavy rain and low temperatures earlier in
the week, Friday evening was warm and dry. The normal pattern at Auburn has been for the
track to be heavy and wet for the first few races. Not the case last night. A dryer track
provided some great racing right from the start. Having said that, several riders did find
unexpected traction coming out of turn two.

A third week of the season and a third main event winner. Last week’s winner Scott
Brant was victim of excessive traction in his semifinal, that converted a safe second
place into an altercation with the wall. Despite hitting hard Scott was OK, but his bike
was a mess, causing a premature end to his evening.
The Scratch main was determined at the gate. Chris
Manchester got one of his perfect starts and that was it. Bobby Hedden tried an outside
line, but it provided no advantage. Alan Christian, whose results are consistently
improving each week was last out of the gate, but got to turn one before Chris Kerr. This
was Chris’s first scratch main.

Scott Brant qualified, but was again a non starter.
A 2002 season’s second handicap main win for Bryan Yarrow. He outgated Chris Kerr and
fell in behind front yardage man Ivan Sevart and patiently waited for Ivan to make his
mistake. Ivan held off for 4 laps, made the mistake and the freight train went past. Mike
Faria was unable to capture any distance on the two youngsters in front.
