Eight dollars! What restaurant can you get a great meal at for just eight dollars?
One that you get two hours of fast paced entertainment as a bonus! PARIS SPEEDWAY!
"Dave's Dogs" stand served up the best foot long hot dog I have ever had, (topped with my choice of 15
items - corn relish and sliced olives ), and a coke - $3.
The five dollar cover charge to get in was certainly worth it!
( BONUS! - a 14 page printed program too! )
Paris Speedway has seen MAJOR renovations, making it a very enjoyable
place to spend the evening.
Excellent weather conditions, moderate opening night crowd of 300 people, and a lot of talented riders from as far away as Quebec and Michigan! The track ( which has been modified with a new surface, and a rebuilt safety fence, held together well through the night, actually improving as the night went on.
A lot of old time regular riders were missing from the program due to illness,
and equipment preparation problems, but the NEW GENERATION racers,
carried the torch! Crowd favorite 15 year old Jeremy Musson from Amhurstburg,
amazed everyone with his speed and control.
He only got on a motorcycle for the first time this winter!
( actually an advantage, as many seasoned riders cannot switch to speedway
and turn right to go left! )
John Mercier
showed he has the speed, staying within inches of Hesmer and Harris in heat 17.
Heat 11 turned out to be a special treat! Casey Franic won with a zero yard handicap, followed closely by John Mercier with his 10 yard start, until he crashed out. Andy Harris had jumped the start on the first try, and on the restart, moved from his 60 yard handicap start position, past all the Division One riders, finishing in second place. Gary Hesmer third, Gaetan Carignan fourth, with Fred Legault crashing out, then managed to remount and finish fifth.
Bobby Muszynski had dominated all night,
got the gate, and his machine carried him to a main event win.
We were all worried that his injury in the USA would keep him out of
racing this year, but he appears as strong as ever!
Holding second was Gary Hesmer.
Fred Legault and
Andy Harris both fell
in separate corners while trying to move up into the top two positions.
Gary had had a running conflict going all night with the referee,
following a complaint from Andy about first corner bunching, moving Gary back to a
penalty line restart in his first heat. The gate positions in the final
were a final test, and Gary and the ref controlled their temper, and
got the race underway.
A new star emerged when #80 Casey Franic hit the track tonight!
We had expected Aaron Hesmer
to take over Division Two with his new laydown, but Aaron played it safe,
not taking wild chances. He appeared tired in the main, finishing last.
Second was Byron Ambo, who got faster as the night went on.
Third was Joe Heye in his first season!
The third division final was so fast, we were sure it was the Division Two Final! Ryan Rainville won, with a strong challenge from Aaron Deveau until engine trouble took Reeve out. Russel Hartke moved up to second, and 15 year old Jeremy Musson followed for third.
Heat points were awarded 3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd, and 1 for third. The top point riders were moved into the final. High points got the gate choice.
