UNITED STATES SPEEDWAY MOTORCYCLE LONGTRACK CHAMPIONSHIP LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AWAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!

(Perris, CA, April 30, 2014) One of the most exciting events on the 2014 Perris Auto Speedway schedule, the American Motorcycle Association's United States Speedway Longtrack Championship, is less than three months on Saturday, July 19th. It will be the second consecutive year the track known worldwide for quality auto racing events has hosted the two wheel spectacular and advanced tickets are on sale now.

Before 2013 when Steve Evans, the Team USA and National Series Coordinator, organized and brought the event to The PAS, the AMA sanctioned race had not been held in California since the closing of legendary Ascot Park in Gardena in 1990. The success of last year's race on the track and in the grandstands ensured that it would be back at The PAS for the second year in a row.

"We dabbled in Speedway a bit over the years, but not with a lot of success," promoter Don Kazarian stated. "We decided to give it another try last year and brought in Steve Evans to organize the event. He and Chris Ackerman did a phenomenal job from the first day we talked until the final checkered flag on race night. Everything was so well organized and it ran smoothly. The racing was the best Speedway action we have ever had and the crowd was our largest for Speedway. We hope for an even better show this year and for years to come. There is already a lot of buzz about the race and people are calling for advance tickets."

"Last year was a success for sure," Evans stated. "It had a great atmosphere and some very good racing. I think this year we can build on that and take it to a higher level. One of the best things about last year is the event winner was Gino Manzares of Corona. He went to England to ride for Ipswich this year in the Premiere League. The event that was staged at The PAS was very much under European racing conditions. It was no surprise that Gino's Longtrack National Championship was a big part in securing his contract (with Ipswich)."

Manzares win and subsequent contract caught the eye of many young riders and even though the race is nearly three months away, entries are already pouring in.

"This year on the pre-entries we already have 17-year-old "Mad Max" Ruml, 16-year-old Broc Nicol, 19-year-old Austin Novratil and soon to be 18-year-old Rocco Scopellite," Evans said with a grin. "You have these teenagers who see this event as a huge deal. But, it is not just about the young riders. It is about everybody and we have the likes of Eddie Castro, last year's grand marshal. He has already entered it. We expect a better rider turnout and a tougher field this year. Last year's event after a three year break from Speedway at The PAS showed that we can do a quality Speedway race."

Bringing Speedway back to the track reunited the sport with the Lake Perris Fairgrounds. Speedway was actually the first ever motorsports event held on the fairgrounds after the Farmer's Fair moved from Hemet to Perris a quarter of a century ago. Ryan Evans won that first race. Starting in 1991 and through 1994, Speedway took place on the fairgrounds every Thursday night on a purpose built track promoted by Brian Church. When Perris Auto Speedway was built in 1996, a couple of events were tried without much success. The sport disappeared from the landscape for 13-years before returning for two races in 2009 and one in 2010. Once again those events did not meet with expectations and Speedway was gone again until last year's successful race.

"The racing was very exciting last year from the Juniors, Support Class and of course, the First Division riders," Kazarian said.
"Then you had the sidecars. The crowd went wild when they were introduced and after one lap, I can see why. Those riders are absolutely fearless. I think you have to be a bit crazy to get on a speedway motorcycle with no brakes, but to get on one of those sidecars, you have to be totally nuts! "

Camping for all events at The PAS is available for $25.00 per night. The campground will open at noon on Friday. Tailgating in the spectator parking lot will begin at 1:00 PM for all PAS events as well.

There are separate divisions for the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the Amsoil OilTwins.com PASSCAR classes of Street Stocks, American Factory Stocks and the Modifieds. Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of October's Southern California Fair), approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds.
